The conclusion of our Always True to the Wine and Blue: 60 Years of Mississippi Beta Tradition campaign is approaching! On July 31, we will be counting the numbers and finalizing strategies from the gifts contributed by our generous alumnae and collegians. Alumnae are essential in everything we do in Pi Phi; whether you're donating to our campaign, volunteering at an event or offering career insight to a collegiate member, your efforts and involvement are invaluable in providing the ultimate Pi Phi experience. Chapter House Corporation is working closely with the contractor, KT Builder, and we are happy to announce that our redesigned and refurnished chapter house will be ready for occupancy as of August 1. After some finishing touches, the project will be complete in September. Like any big project, renovating the chapter house has had its challenges. Between unforeseen weather postponements and poor structural integrity of some walls, the chapter house project experienced 70 days of delays. Once we discovered a wall in the kitchen would be unable to bear the weight of the dorm rooms being constructed above, we had to relocate the kitchen to an off-campus setting. We tirelessly researched locations in Oxford and on campus in search of an out-of-house kitchen. After days of searching and a little luck, we landed on the former Gus's Fried Chicken on North Lamar. After moving several of our own kitchen appliances and equipment to Gus's, we began serving meals on February 28, and over the past few months, Gus's has quickly become a go-to gathering spot for sisters to enjoy meals together, binge a television series, coordinate study groups or simply hang out with one another. Our decorator, Courtney Peters Interior Design of Jackson, has been working diligently to help us plan the beautiful interior of the house. Courtney is planning on designing with softer colors, which will greatly complement our traditional Pi Phi silver blue. We look forward to sharing updates, photos and stories with our alumnae once the project reaches completion! We are still in the midst of renovating the chapter house, and there's no way of knowing if more challenges will show up at our doorstep. The ongoing rain has put us behind schedule and the kitchen had to be taken elsewhere—now we ask ourselves: what obstacle will come next? Undoubtedly, we look at any challenge and conduct a plan to overcome it; the past two years are proof of that! Sisters have shown true grit, perseverance and determination over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic. We, too, will show those attributes should any further complications arise. Our alumnae have held true to Pi Phi's core values, setting an admirable example of Friends and Leaders for Life for our collegians to look up to. All in all, your selfless service, generosity and loyalty have helped us get here, but we could still use your help. We appreciate gifts of any size; every contribution to celebrate 60 years of Mississippi Beta will ensure another 60 (or more!) years of our beloved sisterhood. As always, thank you for the unfaltering support you've shown as an alumna, and we can't wait to share updates with you.
