Keeping Close with Kappa Alpha Χ Ω 3 women. Watching them grow into leaders is one of the most rewarding aspects of being their advisor. The women I have met across the country who volunteer for Chi Omega continue to inspire me daily. Q: What inspired you take on the role of personnel advisor? Jamie: As recruitment advisor, I live at the house for two weeks every summer. After getting to know the girls very well during recruitment, I knew they were comfortable coming to me with their struggles. I felt like I could be there for them year-round as a personnel advisor rather than a few weeks in the summer. Our collegians have a lot on their plate, and if I can play a small role in making their collegiate career better, then I feel like I have succeeded. Q: What do you see in the future for Kappa Alpha Chapter? Jamie: I know Kappa Alpha will continue to improve academically and keep recruiting amazing women to become a part of our sisterhood. We have also worked hard to improve our philanthropy, Make-A-Wish, by having a Wish Week with events every night of the week to raise money. Q: Is there anything else you would like to add about your time with Kappa Alpha Chapter? Jamie: We have started an annual Alumnae Tailgate! We host a tailgate every year on the first home Big 12 game of the year. This year, it will be on October 1 against Texas Tech. There will be more info on the Facebook page, Chi Omega - Kappa Alpha Chapter Alumni. Q: Is there anything about your family that you would like to share? Jamie: My husband, Nathan, and I just welcomed our first baby, Jackson, in November 2021. My husband was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha while at Kansas State and has his own law practice in Manhattan. Q: What are some of your favorite hobbies? Jamie: When I am not helping Kappa Alpha, I also volunteer with our local chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution as well as the Sunset Zoological Park and Wildlife Conservation Trust. You can connect with Jamie at jamiekarlin21@gmail.com. K appa Alpha has had a wonderful spring semester! We began with the Executive Board and Cardinal Cabinet directors attending the virtual Firesides Leadership Training; going virtual allowed our entire leadership team to participate. We met with women from chapters all over the country and came away with new ideas on furthering Kappa Alpha's success. We had 47 4.0's last semester, which is a huge accomplishment for the Kappa Alpha Chapter. Our overall chapter GPA was 3.49. We ranked 5th in GPA out of the 14 sororities on campus. In February, Anna Desmarteau '21 transferred to Kappa Alpha from the University of Kansas's Lambda Chapter. She is an amazing addition to our Chapter and has been incredibly loved and welcomed by our members. For Valentine's Day, Sisterhood Director Brooke Williams '20 and Sisterhood Event Chairman Adison Reinertsen '20 planned an event in which each member was assigned a secret "Galentine" to surprise with small gifts. This helped members interact and get to know other sisters outside their pledge classes. Another big event for February was our Chi O Crush date party at Lazy T Ranch outside of Manhattan. Shoutout to our social directors, Ashton Kate Davis '20 and Sara Schierling '20, for planning the event in collaboration with our date party chairmen, Kelsey Coulter '21, Lauren Davis '20, and Leah Osborn '21. We had a fun and safe night! In early March, we had our annual National Leadership Consultant visit. Our NLC this year was Miranda Mack, who met with our Executive Board, Cardinal Cabinet, House Corporation, and Advisory Board throughout the week. We discussed topics such as leadership, bystander behavior, ritual training, and Fair Play Procedure. Her visit provided us with many new ideas and tools that will greatly help our Chapter. Right before spring break, the Panhellenic Council and Interfraternity Council hosted the 2022 Fraternal Excellence Awards. Chi Omega was named the Advancing Panhellenic Chapter of the Year! It's an honor to be recognized for accomplishing the Chapter goals we set in 2021. I have enjoyed serving as president this first semester and look forward to leading Kappa Alpha Chapter throughout 2022. Next time you're in Manhattan, feel free to stop by 1516 McCain Lane! Yours in Chi Omega, Reagan Riley '19 Chapter President rbriley@ksu.edu (785) 288-1705 A Year of Growth and Progress Kappa Alpha Awarded Advancing Panhellenic Chapter of the Year Our annual Chi O Crush date party came with so many fun memories. From left: Greta Bins '19, Lauren Sandow '19, and Kamryn Nickel '19. During Valentine's week, we had a Valentine-themed photoshoot! From left: Emma Coad '21, Addi Blum '21, Ellie Reese '21, and Megan Whorley '21. With spring comes nicer weather! Maggie Decker '21, Libby Farrell '21, and Halle Green '21 enjoying a hike on the Konza Prairie Trail in Manhattan. Manhattan weather has been anything but normal. On a snowy day with classes canceled, Rachel Turek '20, Kaysi Overdick '20, and Maggie Gann '20 had fun making an owl snowman in front of the Chapter House!
