BETA BETA CHAPTER of ALPHA PHI at MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY Spring 2022 Inaugural Beta Beta Chapter members at Michigan Agricultural College. Early Feronians A s women, we all need to demonstrate courage and tenacity to ensure we can capitalize on the opportunities in our lives and careers. How fortunate are we to build on the legacy of the many women who came before us and paved a path for us! Let's recognize and celebrate our heritage. We would not be Beta Beta Chapter if not for the women of the Feronian Literary Society. They are the first group of leaders, who in 1891, had to fight for permission to gather on campus! But fight they did, and on March 20, 1891, they became the first women's organization at Michigan Agricultural College. Their courage was called upon again in 1922 when these women petitioned to become the newest Alpha Phi chapter. On February 17, 1922, the Beta Beta Chapter of Alpha Phi became the first women's Panhellenic organization at Michigan Agricultural College. Please take a look at the photos of early Feronians and inaugural Beta Beta Chapter members; we owe a debt of gratitude to these women who started it all. The women of Beta Beta led the way for women in the early 1900s, and today, we celebrate their spirit and leadership. This fall, we will gather to celebrate this incredible milestone—a Century of Sisterhood. A Lifetime of Friendship. As this is a special Centennial Celebration edition newsletter, we have much to cover. On page two, we provide the basics about the Centennial Celebration. Please take the time to visit our new alumnae website and buy your tickets to this special event! Also on page two, with a nod to our history and capitalizing on modern technology, we announce the launch of our digital museum. We encourage you to go check it out. To create a springboard for the next century, we are in the early stages of creating the Beta Beta Centennial Leadership Program. The goal of the program is to give current collegians a jump-start on their future leadership aspirations as they prepare for success beyond their Michigan State University college years. As we all benefited from the contributions of Beta Beta sisters who started and ensured the long-term success of our chapter, we are also announcing the Beta Beta Centennial Leadership Fund. More details are offered on page two. Continuing our leadership theme, this special edition newsletter highlights the contributions of two distinguished alumnae: Conni Goldsmith Crittenden'71 and Susan Brink Sherratt '77. They and a cadre of other distinguished Beta Betas have led the way over the years in ensuring the success of the Beta Beta Chapter of Alpha Phi. We invite you to read more on page three. Our Centennial Celebration on October 7-9 is only possible through the hard work of a group of caring alumnae. You may recognize some familiar sisters who are contributing to a fun and memorable celebration weekend. Team member names, their pledge year, and committee roles are listed on page four. Finally, with the goal of gathering many Beta Betas and reconnecting with even more, we need your help. We are trying to communicate with as many Beta Beta Chapter members as we can. Please take some time to review the Lost Sisters insert and reach out to Michelle Horne Tiderington '94 with updated contact information. With your help, we can get the Centennial Celebration message out to as many sisters as possible. Thank you to everyone who has played a part in making the Centennial Celebration possible. We cannot wait to see you there! AOE, A CENTURY OF SISTERHOOD. A LIFETIME OF FRIENDSHIP. The Ivy The Ivy C e le bra ting 1 00 Y ears of B eta B e ta !
