Sigma Phi EPSilon FratErnity florida alPha ChaPter P.o. Box 12182 gainesville, fl 32604-0182 Address Service Requested SigEp Gator Heart T he SigEp experience is invaluable. With the goal to Build Better Men, it provides a foundation for its brothers to succeed. Three Florida Alpha brothers, Brady Alexander '22 (National Board), AJ Siccardi '98 (SigEp National Housing Foundation), and Mike Watford '75 (Educational Foundation), share why they choose to serve Sigma Phi Epsilon on the National Level and what their experience has been like. Q: How would you describe the impact that Florida Alpha has had on your life? Brady: I have grown into someone that seeks to mentor younger brothers and have discovered areas that I value more, such as time management and building personal relationships. Florida Alpha has taught me to be more reflective on my life, connecting me with individuals who I can rely on for years to come. AJ: I learned more about myself and how to be successful in life from my SigEp experience, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. I was active as an undergraduate, and I continue to be active through my life after college, whether it be at the local or national level. I find it rewarding each step of the way. Mike: SigEp provided me with a sense of community, traditions, and a caring culture. It provided me with a sense of belonging and led to a more balanced collegiate life. Today, the vocabulary is "The Balanced Man," and the experiences helped lay the foundation for my life journey. Q: What inspired you to join SigEp on a national level? Brady: I wanted to bring the voice of the undergraduates to the National Board. Prior to my joining the National Board of Directors, undergraduates were given programs for success within their Chapter but never really saw the behind the scenes of how those ideas and processes were formed. My goal is to help spread awareness and improve cohesiveness of the National Board and undergraduates across the country. AJ: When I was an undergraduate, I served on the NBD; when my term expired and I graduated, I joined the AVC board for our local Chapter for several years. A few years later, leaving a legaCy on sigep ΣΦE Officers Share How They Make an Impact Bert Harris III '74, who was on the NBD for SigEp, asked me if I would be interested in joining SigEp National Housing. Mike: I received a national award—that opened my eyes to what was going on in the modern ΣΦE world. The focus on individual development, leadership, and service attracted my attention. Q: What has your experience been like serving SigEp on the national level? Brady: My experience has been fulfilling. The day after being elected and confirmed by the Grand Chapter, our board had its first meeting; from the very beginning, I was welcomed by the alumni directors and other student directors. AJ: I've had a great experience; I've made great relationships and had a lot of fun. We've made some improvements in the operations and management of the community, and I can feel my impact. Q: How would you encourage other alumni to get involved? Brady: We all take a vow when we are initiated into Sigma Phi Epsilon. I encourage alumni to reflect upon these vows and act on those values to ensure the next generation of SigEps continue to improve and expand our Fraternity. AJ: I would encourage people to get involved at the local level. I really enjoyed being on the alumni board with the opportunity to interact with the undergraduates—and I miss that. There's always more help needed at the local level than there are people to do it. Mike: We are called to be cheerful givers and to serve, and this is one way you can give back to future leaders and the community.
