Page 2 SigEp Gator Heart ACADEMICS I am very proud to announce that Sigma Phi Epsilon took home the highest IFC GPA for the fall 2021 semester. We have an academic mentor Grady Svetly '24, who is responsible for assisting those who struggle academically and connecting younger brothers with older brothers within the same programs. This has been a huge help in achieving a higher GPA. PHILANTHROPY Over the course of the spring semester, Florida Alpha has had multiple fundraisers for a variety of purposes. Hundreds of dollars have been raised and donated to the University of Florida's Dance Marathon. In January, our brothers gathered to assist A Reason to Give, a service organization that volunteers its time to create lunches for the homeless. We have also rallied together to support our brother, Zach Karpinski '22, following a scooter accident. Our Chapter raised over $6,000 toward medical expenses and other costs associated with his recovery. MEMBERSHIP Around 450 potential new members signed up for spring 2022 formal recruitment week, of which around 300 walked through our doors. With two out of three PNMs coming to SigEp, it reaffirms the fact that we are one of the most successful fraternities on campus. The successes we have achieved over the past few years have allowed us to produce young leaders who are making an impact on campus and within their spheres of influence. This is something the undergraduate members are very proud of and others strive to be a part of. The Sigma challenge is geared toward acclimating new brothers to the fraternity climate and encouraging them to contribute to the success of our Chapter. The Phi challenge is for freshmen and sophomores that joined SigEp during the 2021 calendar year and provides brothers tools to pursue their physical, intellectual, and academic goals. The Epsilon challenge works with current juniors to help brothers begin looking beyond their college goals and aiming for long-term professional success after graduation. Brother mentors serve as consuls for advice and reflection, speaking with members of the three prior challenges and spending time discussing the legacy they have left on the chapter. PARTNERED CHAPTER ACTIVITIES We recently paired with Pi Beta Phi sorority to volunteer for A Reason to Give on March 6. Looking forward, we are excited to be paired with Kappa Kappa Gamma for fall 2022 Homecoming. MEMBER EVENTS The Florida Alpha Chapter has a presence within every aspect of campus involvement. Two of our undergraduate brothers, Scott Ater '22 and Brady Alexander '22, were recently inducted into the University of Florida Hall of Fame. We also have brothers involved with Student Government, Florida Cicerones, Special Olympics, various engineering design teams, service organizations, and many other activities on and off campus. INTRAMURALS This semester, our Chapter had 70 brothers participating in intramural sports, including basketball, soccer, softball, and volleyball. The basketball team posted a 3-1 record in the regular season, gaining them a six-seed spot in the playoffs. They won the first two games of a 15-team playoff and landed themselves a spot in the final four on March 30. The soccer team posted an amazing undefeated season, gaining the top seed in the playoffs with a bye for the first round. The softball team is currently sitting at 3-0 and is looking to finish the season strong with a solid spot in the playoffs and back-to-back championship wins. The volleyball team is sitting at 1-2 and is very motivated to pick up their play in the second half of the season to make a deep run in the men's league. This semester, all our sports have drawn crowds; as brothers come to watch the games, it generates an electric atmosphere and exemplifies amazing brotherly love. ALUMNI AND PARENT EVENTS An ongoing project this spring—made possible due to gracious alumni donations—is the Alpha Gator. Due to efforts from Jeff "Gator" Wilson '76 and Mark Warner '76, the Alpha Gator is a brass statue that will be placed in the courtyard that will serve as a physical appreciation for alumni efforts to better the undergraduate Chapter. The statue will be placed on a pedestal that will include three plaques recognizing David M. Hendon Jr. '50, the J. P. "Gator" Wilson Family Foundation, and Florida Alpha Chapter's history. The undergraduate members are grateful and thankful for these donations. Finally, our Parent's Weekend, aimed at recognizing and appreciating the efforts of the most influential individuals in our undergraduate members' lives, took place March 26 and 27. We are so grateful for support from our alumni—we wouldn't be the Chapter we are without you!
