Page 4 SigEp Gator Heart A t Florida Alpha, some of the most recent strides in our brotherhood have been through sport. Last spring, under the guise of Vice President of Member Development Jacob Smith '23 and Brother Adam Wolcott '23, Florida Alpha took advantage of its newly painted basketball court to organize a brotherhood 3-on-3 basketball league. Commissioner Wolcott made a regular season and playoff schedule for games, which routinely brought 50-plus brothers to watch. The league worked so well that Adam decided to bring it back this fall. New brothers and seasoned veterans make up 12 teams in two conferences (Sound Mind and Sound Body), with over 60 brothers involved. After a regular season that lasted most of the semester, teams competed in a championship game complete with announcers, referees, and newly created fan benches. As part of their challenge project, the Sigma group (see the Chapter president's article on page 2 for more information about challenge groups) built benches for brothers to watch the 3-on-3 games. The Chapter has recognized how valuable the league is to Chapter morale and culture, so we have decided to invest in it. Upon the conclusion of another successful basketball season, Adam decided to bring a second sport to Florida Alpha's intramural league this spring: flag football. Similarly, Wolcott held a draft with six teams and 60 brothers involved. These games have been held at Lake Alice Field and Flavet Field and have given Florida Alpha's brothers another opportunity to bond and compete with one another. Brothers flock to the fields to watch these competitive games and, as a Chapter, feel more united and excited for seasons to come. Florida Alpha hopes this new intramural league tradition will continue at the Chapter for years to come. Fraternally, Will Munro '24 A TRADITION LIKE NO OTHER Florida Alpha's Intramural Sports Carson Boogaart '23 pulls up for a jumper over Zach Hibshman '23 in Florida Alpha's annual all-star game. T his semester, Florida Alpha appointed our 2022 SigEp Sweetheart as Sarah Garavaglia! After deliberations and a presentation, Sarah was voted in by brothers to be the female face of the Chapter this year. Sarah is an environmental science and philosophy major with a minor in economics; she will be working with a state representative in Gainesville after graduating in May. On February 2, brothers lined the courtyard to welcome Sarah with roses for her sweetheart dinner, where steaks were served and brothers had the chance to talk with her. The night was an amazing opportunity for brothers to bond with Sarah and each other as we all look forward to another successful and productive year here at Florida Alpha. HFF, Jack Sonderman '24 Vice President of Communications Our Leading Lady Florida Alpha Announces 2022 Sweetheart Brothers greeting John-Paul Kraus '22 and Florida Alpha's 2022 Sweetheart, Sarah Garavaglia, with roses as they arrive for our annual sweetheart dinner. A wonderful welcome for our Sweetheart, Sarah Garavaglia, as she meets the men of Florida Alpha.
