S igma Phi Epsilon Education Foundation of Texas Alpha is proud to announce our 2021 Scholarship recipients. We received an extraordinary number of qualified applicants for the Buffkin-Felker Brotherhood scholarship and in a first, split the award three ways. JKT Balanced Man Reid Valentine '22 Coppell, Texas Major: Public Relations 3.5 GPA Buffkin-Felker Brotherhood This continues to be a challenging time on campus, as the administration and huge bureaucracy transitions to in-person. The chapter has pushed through in admirable fashion, but some members have experienced greater than normal hardships at home. Let us know if you have questions. I hope this newsletter finds you well. 2021 is now behind us, and life seems to be back to normal in West Campus. It has been an excellent spring semester for the approximately 188 men of Sigma Phi Epsilon, and the chapter continues to do well. Our chapter ended the fall semester on a strong note with a 3.4 overall GPA, made up of a 3.38 GPA for the active brothers and a 3.48 for the new member class. Aside from their academic success, the young men managed to also embrace a full social schedule and welcome a large new member class. In other news, the semester has proved interesting on several fronts, mainly with the university. There is a new director of student conduct who is pursuing any reported issues, whether they are anonymous or not. This has given our chapter officers the opportunity to show university staff how we manage our chapter and the new member class. While this was time-consuming, we came away with, what I believe, is a more strengthened relationship with the university, and our officers now understand the areas of concern that the university is focusing on. As a result, we have been asked by the university to participate in interviews with a new consulting group to help UT update and modernize its relationships with the Greek community. I personally participated and believe this is a beneficial and positive improvement in our relationship. With that said, please know that active chapter officers and the local alumni board are committed to making Texas Alpha the best chapter at the best university in the country. Please feel free to reach out to the officers or alumni with any concerns or questions that you may have. As we pride ourselves in recruiting men that hold true to our values, please let us know of any upcoming freshman recommendations for our recruitment team—especially legacies. If you're interested in becoming actively involved with Texas Alpha, we encourage you to join us in the Skull & Crossbones Society; all funds go toward leadership training for the actives. Hope to see y'all in Austin!
