And no better example of that would be the Farmington Senior Activity and Wellness Center. e center provides an oasis of grace for the senior population in the area. ey are there at a time in someone's life when they need it the most. eir flagship activity is their Meals on Wheels program. Everyone knows someone who has been touched by Meals on Wheels – a family member, a friend, or a neighbor. e Farmington Senior Activity and Wellness Center has provided peace of mind for many families in the community who couldn't be there themselves for a loved one. ey provide nutritious meals for homebound seniors in Farmington, Greenland and West Fork through their Meals on Wheels program. Lela Hampton has served as director of Farmington Senior Activity and Wellness Center for less than a year, but she is no stranger to the senior care field. "I started my career at the Fayetteville Senior Center in 2015," she said. "I first served as the Faculty Assistant then I moved on to Program Assistant. I became the director at the Farmington center in May 2021." She decided to leave her career as a floral designer because standing all the time was demanding. But, being who she was, she still wanted to do something that helped people and made them happy. Working with the elderly seemed to be just the ticket. "Senior centers and the Meals on Wheels program are very rewarding," she said. "And what sets our center apart from others is the warm, close-knit community feeling that Farmington itself provides."
