Auto Glass and Mirror was established in 1948 by George Moore. Today it remains in the family, run by his grandson, Michael Moore. Michael's son, Michael Jr., is poised to continue the legacy. e business exemplifies the special, family-oriented town that is Farmington. "My grandfather started this business on July 4th, 1948," Michael began. "He wanted to start it out with a bang and he did a great job of it, too. He actually bought out a glass business and kept a rather large shop table, a glass sander that still works, a welder and some other odds and ends. e first shop opened right off the Fayetteville Town Square on Meadow St." A few years later the city paid him to relocate his business because they didn't want a glass shop on the square. So, he moved over to Holly St. in Fayetteville. His son, Bill Moore, took over the business in 1969. Aer 30 successful years at the Holly St. location, in 1999 they moved the business to its present location in Farmington. at's when Michael and his brother-in-law Floyd Shelley took the reins, marking the third generation of Moores in the auto glass and mirror business. "In June of 2007 my brother-in-law went to work with someone else," Michael recalled. "So I took over the business myself. And finally, in March 2014, my son Michael Jr. started working with my wife and I, officially welcoming the 4th generation into the family business." Auto Glass and Mirror does just about any kind of vehicle glass—windshields, back glass, and side door glass. "We also do classic car glass, as well as installing house windows, mirrors and cabinet glass," Michael said. "My father, Bill Moore, does stained glass so we have that, too. We can also do glass for tabletops and heavy machinery glass. You name it, we can do it." Michael Jr. started learning the family business early on, helping in the shop aer school and during the summer as a 9th grader. "Of course, he had grown up coming up here since he was a baby," Michael recalled. "We changed his and his sister's diapers on the shop table that had been in the business when my grandfather started out. We changed our grandkids diapers here, too. We are a very close family and always have one or all of our grandkids up here, hanging out with us. It's never a dull moment here at the glass shop. And we love it that way." When asked what their secret is for maintaining a successful business for so long, Michael is quick to say that it is their service that sets them apart. "We are unique with our customer service," he said. "We pride ourselves on service and guarantee our service as well. With four generations spanning more that seventy years, we must be doing something right." Michael also notes that being of service to their community is important to the family, too. "We put our customers first before anything else," he said. "ey are what matter. ey are the ones who keep us going. We have a saying 'we're not out here to make money, we're here to make friends.' And we've been saying this for years. We are so very blessed because of our amazing customers." 65 W Main St., Farmington, AR 72730.
