Lela believes that, while the effects of aging may be inevitable, it doesn't have to take a toll on quality of life and independence if we all get involved. e Farmington Senior Activity and Wellness Center can provide an entire year of home delivered meal service to a client for less than the average cost of one week in a nursing home or one day in the hospital. In addition to the Meals on Wheels program, the Center also provides meals on-site. is allows seniors to not only get a healthy meal, but to have an opportunity to socialize, as well. "We provide a congregate meal daily between 11:30 a.m. and 12 noon," Lela said. "We also have games, field trips, gospel singing and bible study. Our members are avid card players, too!" Lela Hampton is married with two daughters and five grandchildren. Her career as a floral designer began at the age of 18. She feels her reasons for enjoying floral design easily transferred to her reasons for serving at a center for senior adults. "Flowers and floral designs make people happy," she said. "Here at the Center I enjoy the people. You can learn so much from their life experiences." Lela feels that it doesn't take much from each of us to improve the lives of so many. Together, we can make a huge difference for seniors right here in our community. We all know what it's like to feel lonely. Isolation doesn't know social or economic boundaries. "I want people to know that the Center is here," Lela said. "We are here to help people in need of a meal or socialization." Meals on Wheels is open to all in need - for every senior who might otherwise be alone, forgotten, or hungry.
