The successes achieved by Delta Mu are directly attributed to the loyal support from you and your sisters. Your gifts allow us to provide an environment where our undergraduates can prepare for excellence in their lives after college while gaining friendships that will last a lifetime. Honoring the Obligations (Continued from page 1) the young women of Tri Delta, including offering opportunities like Start Smart, teaching them how to budget, to negotiate salaries, and to learn what their skills are and to use them in leadership positions." During her undergraduate years, Jennie served as assistant treasurer and treasurer for Delta Mu while earning a bachelor's degree in history and psychology. Later, she would obtain a master's degree in library service and continue her connection to Tri Delta as a financial advisor when she began working at the University of Alabama. Jennie would also eventually move into the role of alumna advisor. "I spent the last 10 years before retiring working at the University of Alabama as a career consultant," where she would help young students learn more about themselves and find a suitable career path. "It was an easy segue into working with the young women in the sorority. I felt like I could help them with leadership and the lessons I was teaching. It was a perfect opportunity to help them, and in doing so, they helped me understand college women today." Jennie offered advice for active members through a quote by football coach Lou Holtz. "Lou said, 'Today's athletes talk about rights and privileges, and the players 50 years ago talked about obligations and responsibilities.' Much like these athletes, sorority members need to balance the obligations and privileges of being in a sorority." After retiring two years ago, Jennie enjoys spending time with family and continuing her volunteer work. "For 50 years, I always had a working position outside of the home. It has taken some time to figure out what I want to do, but I am glad to still find ways to make a difference." Jennie has a husband and three grown children with grandchildren from all three. "Our two rescue dogs are definitely part of the family as well!" You can connect with Jennie at jenniekking@gmail.com. Our Tri Delta sophomores were all smiles as their parents visited for the weekend.
