Bosch associate says he turned down $125K BRISTOL, Conn. (AP) — A former associate of Biogenesis head Tony Bosch said he turned down a $125,000 offer from Major League Baseball for documents said to implicate players in the use of performanceenhancing drugs. In an interview broadcast Thursday on ESPN's ''Outside the Lines,'' Porter Fischer also said an additional dozen athletes from different sports — whose names have not been made public — were involved in the now-closed Florida anti-aging clinic. Fischer, 49, admitted giving documents to the Miami News Times, which published a story in January detailing the alleged purchase of performance-enhancing drugs by Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez, 2012 All-Star game MVP Melky Cabrera, 2005 AL Cy Young Award winner Bartolo Colon and 2011 AL championship series MVP Nelson Cruz. Others were later implicated in media reports, including Milwaukee outfielder Ryan Braun, who agreed this week to a 65game suspension. Baseball's probe of other players is ongoing. Fischer said he received $5,500 in cash from MLB's investigation. The network reported he rejected the larger sum because it wasn't enough to restart his life. ''Once I turned them down for the $125,000, two days later they wrote me a letter instructing me not to destroy any documents and to keep them around,'' he said. ''Then two days after that on the 24th of March, I was transporting evidence back to the state investigator for him to follow up on some criminal activity, and my car was broken into and four boxes of evidence were taken. Donovan's 2 goals lead US into final ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — By even the very high standards of coach Jurgen Klinsmann, Landon Donovan is regaining top form after taking a break from the national team. Donovan scored two goals and set up another on Wednesday night, helping the United States beat Honduras 3-1 to advance to the CONCACAF Gold Cup final. Klinsmann said the performance was ''wonderful to watch.'' ''I have told him in our conversations that 'I measure you. Your benchmark is the best Landon Donovan ever,''' Klinsmann said. ''I'm not taking anything less than that. And he is trying to catch up with that. Give him more games. Give him time.'' The Americans will play Panama, a 2-1 winner over Mexico in the second semifinal, on Sunday in Chicago. The U.S. has won a team-record 10 straight games. While Klinsmann has declined to confirm that Donovan will be rejoining the World Cup qualifying team later this year, the top goal scorer in U.S. history is leaving little doubt that he belongs. Donovan has five goals in the tournament, tying him with teammate Chris Wondolowski for most in the Gold Cup. Donovan has set up seven goals, including four in the last two games. He finally was subbed out in the 72nd minute, having earned a rest. ''It's the most relaxed I've felt,'' Donovan said. ''I feel good, and I'm really enjoying it.'' The U.S. struck first when Donovan found Eddie Johnson running through the middle of the Honduran defense. Johnson took a dribble and powered a shot past goalkeeper Donis Escober, giving the U.S. a lead 11 minutes into the game. In the 27th minute, Johnson started another scoring sequence with a pass to midfielder Alejandro Bedoya. Donovan received Bedoya's short chip off his chest in the middle of the goal box and poked a shot past Escober. ''The first 30 minutes was brilliant football. Brilliant, high pressure, high tempo,'' Klinsmann said. ''We wanted to move the football around and create chances, and that's what we did.'' Nery Medina of Honduras made it a one-goal game in the 52nd minute, heading in a cross from Marvin Chavez. The Americans countered a minute later when Bedoya ran down a long ball from Clarence Goodson and crossed it to Donovan, who scored from a few yards out. ''In the end, the U.S. was able to beat us in every aspect of the game,'' Honduras coach Luis Fernando Suarez said. After the game, it was uncertain whether Klinsmann would be suspended for the final after being ejected in the 87th minute 49ERS for slamming a ball into the ground. A CONCACAF official said the referee would file a report with CONCACAF's disciplinary committee, which will announce a decision in the next day or two. Klinsmann said he was reacting to a number of hard fouls over the game's final 30 minutes. ''It was a reaction out of frustration,'' he said. ''It was not meant against the referee, against anybody. It was just frustration. I apologize for that.'' SENIOR BRITISH OPEN Kaepernick has eyes on Super Bowl Sauers leads after 1st round SANTA CLARA (AP) — Colin Kaepernick's every move is scrutinized now that he has reached rock-star status as a third-year quarterback with the NFL's topselling jersey. He showed up for Day 1 of training camp Thursday sporting a black beanie hat and large red headphones hanging from his neck, insisting he is unaffected by it all. The hype isn't going away anytime soon. ''There's just more opportunities to do things. For the most part for me, I'm worried about playing football,'' Kaepernick said ahead of the team's first fullsquad practice. ''I'm worried about making sure I'm ready to go on the field and perform.'' Once on the field, he performed squats between snaps and chatted up running back Frank Gore. On one third-and-10, Kaepernick connected with A.J. Jenkins, who caught the ball over his shoulder along the left sideline and stayed inbounds for about a 12yard gain — general manager Trent Baalke on the sidelines watching. In six short months since losing in the waning moments of the Super Bowl, Kaepernick has, among other things, appeared unclothed on the cover of ESPN The Magazine's ''The Body Issue.'' And Kaep caused quite a stir by wearing a Miami cap. He fully expects plenty of grief from teammates as he begins his first training camp as the guy under center. ''I haven't had anything real bad yet, so I feel like they're plotting on me right AP photo San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick throws during NFL football training camp Thursday in Santa Clara. now,'' Kaepernick said with a smile. The 25-year-old Kaepernick has been fueled by coming so close to the franchise's sixth Super Bowl championship in February, a 34-31 loss to Baltimore. The Niners missed three chances from the 5-yard line, yet Kaepernick is quick to point to a mistake-filled first half. Coach Jim Harbaugh's forward-focused message has been clear: ''If you're still talking about what you did yesterday, you haven't done much today.'' Kaepernick is determined to be that much better in his first full season as starter for the two-time NFC West champions, who expect a big challenge in the division from Seattle and St. Louis. The 49ers are ready for Kaepernick to lead them back to the big stage. ''Kaep is a diverse guy. And the coaches love him. The players love him. It's unique in that way, maybe for a quarterback, you don't always see that. I see that with Kaep,'' said Harbaugh, a former NFL quarterback himself. ''He's universally respected in that locker room and loved by his teammates. And guess I see that from the 25-to-35 demographic, too, that are buying jerseys. So people relate to him. They like his company, they like being around him.'' Kaepernick backed up Harbaugh's switch to him from now-Chiefs QB Alex Smith last November by taking the 49ers to the Super Bowl for the first time in 18 years, showing his dynamic ability and versatility immediately. A 2011 second-round pick out of Nevada, the speedy, strong-armed Kaepernick was 7-3 as a starter last season with 1,814 yards passing, 10 touchdowns and three interceptions. He rushed for a record 181 yards with a 56-yard touchdown in the divisional playoffs against Green Bay, longest in franchise history by a quarterback. Kaepernick's work ethic and talent earned him the trust of his teammates, many of whom are already approaching him as their leader. ''When we're here doing our minicamp stuff, he's here at 6, 7 in the morning running 200s for seemingly no reason,'' wideout Kyle Williams said. ''He knows how to prepare himself. Guys respect that. And he wins, and he plays well, so obviously guys are going to be in his corner. He's not one of those guys who's gotten success and wants to relax. He wants to go harder.'' Defensive tackle Justin Smith is eager to watch Kaepernick make further strides — and said the defense will do its part. SOUTHPORT, England (AP) — Gene Sauers mastered a stiff breeze to shoot a 3-under 67 Thursday for a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Senior British Open. The 50-year-old American had all pars on the front nine for a 34 at sunny Royal Birkdale. He then birdied the 10th and bogeyed the 11th. His three successive birdies from the 15th left him at 33 for the back nine. ''I hit a lot of solid shots in the wind, so it didn't really mess with me too much,'' Sauers said. ''I'm really pleased with the way I played. This is only my third British Open and it's a great privilege and honor to be here.'' Four players were at 68, among them 2010 British Senior Champion Bernhard Langer. The German was joined by South Africa's David Frost, Australia's Peter Senior and Frankie Minoza of the Philippines. Only 10 of the 144 players bettered par. Sauers is 23rd on the Champions Tour money list and has made 11 cuts from 11 starts this year with two second-place finishes and a third. At 69 were former U.S. Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin and fellow Americans Gary Hallberg, John Cook and Jeff Hart as well as Australia's Peter Fowler.
