19 • 2022 Dogwood Festival The Dogwood Festival is always looking for ways to expand and grow the experience for festival attendees. With this in mind, last year the Festival was approached about the idea of adding new and vintage automobiles to the festival. Gaylene Ellis of Legacy Jewelry was the coordinator for this event, in conjunction with Dogwood Festival Coordinator Lindsey Taylor. "The car show was a big hit and the Dogwood Festival is bringing it back," Lindsey said. "Last year it proved to be a great addition to the already fun-packed weekend in Siloam Springs." And this year promises to top the success of last year with more cars and more fun. "We've worked with the city and the Chamber to make this show bigger and better than last year," Gaylene said. "They have moved the event to a better location, bringing more of the festival to downtown. We will be on Broadway." Last year, just under 100 cars participated. This year they are hoping to showcase from 175 to 200 vehicles of all makes and models from the last 100 years. Festival attendees will be able to walk up to and look at the cars that will be showcased at the festival and visit with the owners, all free of charge. "People will be able to walk through and view these classics," Gaylene said. "The guys will have their hoods up for everyone to inspect the engines, too. The only thing we ask is that parents keep an eye on their kids, in order to respect these antiques and the owners who work so hard to keep them showcase-ready." The car show is open to all type of vehicles and classic cars. "Like last year it will draw a crowd to our community that may not have been at the festival before," Gaylene explained. "We want to make this event a destination that car lovers look forward to each year." Trophies will be awarded in several categories ranging from the early 1900s on up to current models. They will also have a trophy for the Unprofessional Class or 'rat rod' vehicles, and a truck and motorcycle trophy. First and second place winners will receive trophies, and plaques will be given for a third place showing. "We will also have a Best in Show, the Public Servant's Choice, the Children's Choice and a Red Hat winner," Gaylene said. "The Red Hats are a women's charity organization who are helping us put on the show." This year the hours of the Second Annual Dogwood Festival Car Show have also been expanded. It will take place on Saturday, April 25, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Registration is $25 per car, and you can find the link on the Siloam Springs Cruise Night and Dogwood Festival Facebook pages to register. Don't miss this very special event at this year's festival as the classy vehicles roll into downtown Siloam Springs. Classic car show returns to the Dogwood Festival
