Timberlake is a school board member in the Quartzsite Elementary School District and ASBA's La Paz County Director. The award was present- ed to Timberlake during ASBA's Advocacy Day at the Arizona State Capitol on March 14, 2022. This is an annual award presented to recognize an edu- cation advocate or advocates who have excelled in grassroots advocacy. "Monica is a huge advocate for students and public schools in rural areas and understands the special needs and challenges rural communities face. She knows the issues because she is part of that community. I can't think of anyone more deserving than Monica to receive this award," states Chris Kotterman, ASBA director of governmental relations.
