SUBMIT FOR FREE at www.QuartzsiteCalendar.com COVID-19 updates Tuesday, March 15, 2022: There are a total of 1,987,318 confi rmed cases of coronavirus in Arizona and 28,090 coronavirus-related deaths according to the AZDHS numbers. For the week, Arizona State health department reported 6,549 new cases and 382 new deaths. The La Paz County Health Depart- ment reported 21 new cases of Cov- id-19 over the weekend and 1 death. This brings our county total to 5,150 cases. with total of 133 deaths. Please do your part and stay home when you do not feel well! If you are experiencing a change in how you feel and get tested, please stay home until you receive the test results. • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands. • Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue. Consider wear- ing cloth face coverings, if it can be safely managed, in public settings where other physical distancing measures are diffi cult to main- tain. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces. • If you are at higher risk for severe illness, you should avoid attend- ing congregate settings. People at higher risk for severe illness include adults 65 or older and people of any age who have serious underlying medical conditions. Council recap Town of Quartzsite Council February 22 Special and Regular Council Meeting Recap Council members discussed al- ternatives to the current structure, procedures, and increased train- ing for the Town's various advisory boards. Consensus opinion was to have a focused vision and mission statement for any new committee that may be created. Council approved Consent Agen- da items Ledger of Accounts paid in the total amount of $165,694.52 and the February 8, 2022 regular meeting minutes. Council voted to authorize the Town manager to sign an updated lease agreement with the U.S. Post- al Service for the land behind the Police Station where the Post Offi ce Annex is located. The terms of the agreement contain more favorable conditions to the Town than the previous version. Council heard a concern expressed by the Town Attorney regarding past practices of the Town to allow a different number of four-year term Council Member seats than is pre- scribed in the Town Code and State law. Council directed staff to make the correction prior to the next election cycle to bring the number of four-year and two-year Council seats into compliance. The Town Manager announced the well driller is onsite and will begin drilling the new town water well at the Kofa Avenue water plant site. He also reminded everyone that Buck Connors Days event is on track to be held the weekend after the County Fair in March. Council discussed the current sta- tus of COVID-19 protective measures for Town facilities. Town Manager Jim Ferguson announced the mask requirements for Town Hall staff will be downgraded to a recommended status rather than mandatory. Ann Kenny and Ann Zeller Party in park returns March 20th By Joanne Winer The annual Party in the Park for Celia's Rainbow Gardens is being planned for Sunday March 20 start- ing at 1 p.m. It will be held at the pavilion in the Town Park. We will have some great music by Steve Hohstadt and friends, and we will be putting out donation cans to help raise money for the insignias we will be putting on the new mon- uments in the Heroes Bell Gardens in the Gardens.
