She was the daugh- ter of the late Sammy and Effie Owens Steadman and a native of Rutherford County. She was preceded in death by her first husband Arthur Thompson and her second husband Reverend Leslie Thompson. Phemelia was also preceded in death by her daughter; Martha Jane Blanton, her brothers; James Steadman and Paul Steadman; sisters; Melvie Amos, Florence Martin and Dora Morrow. She was a member of the Gray's Creek Baptist Church. She is survived by son Larry A. Thompson (Peggy), four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, son-in- law David Blanton and sis- ter-in-law Opal Thompson and a host of nieces and nephews. The funeral was held March 6, 2022 at Gray's Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Bryan Ezell officiating. Memorial may be made to Hospice of Carolina Foothills; PO Box 336; Forest City, NC 28043. Jeannie Powell Jeannie Powell, age 86, of Forest City, died March 3, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Pete Gillespie and the late Lena Gillespie. In addition to her par- ents she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Eugene Powell; broth- er Charles Gillespie; sister Shirley Carpenter and son- in-law Steve Abbey. Jeannie was a native of Van, WV. She was an educator in Rutherford County for over 30 years. Survivors include daughters Deborah Toney (Dale) Sandie Powell Abbey, son: Samuel Eugene Powell (Bonnie), sister: Ann Claytor, Special Nephew: Tony Claytor, six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren. The funeral was held March 7, 2022 with Rev. Ronald Roberts and Rev. William Swink officiating. Mary Ellen Davis Mary Ellen Davis, age 80, of Forest City passed away March 4, 2022. Mary Ellen was born September 6, 1941 in Rutherford County to the late Frank Weldon Moore and Margaret Walker Moore. She was a longtime member of Providence United Methodist Church and DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution). She was preceded in death by husband, Charles Davis, and brother Larry Frank Moore. Those left to cherish her memory are daughter, Jennifer Davis and many close friends and family. The funeral service was held March 9, 2022 at Providence United Methodist Church with Rev. Phillip Duncan and Rev. Bill Taylor officiating.
