University of Florida p. 3 www.ufato.org T his fall brought a return to normalcy in Gainesville. With the university lifting most of the COVID-19 restrictions that have been in place over the past year, Alpha Omega Chapter was gifted the opportunity to thrive as we attended in-person classes, tailgates, and more. As fall semester ends, Alpha Omega would like to share our triumphs over the summer and fall of 2021. 2021 True Merit In August, Vice President Nick Althammer '18 and I represented Alpha Omega Chapter at the National Awards Celebration in Orlando, where we received True Merit for the fourth consecutive year. In addition to True Merit, we accepted Excellence Awards in recruitment, scholarship, and service, and we were also recognized with an Elevate Honorable Mention. This was a great weekend honoring the triumphs of the brotherhood as well as spending time with alumni and other Presidents and Vice Presidents to discuss ideas to implement within the Chapter. Local Marines Dinner September brought unity. Alpha Omega hung a banner honoring the 13 fallen soldiers in Afghanistan. Later in the month, our Chapter was fortunate to host Staff Sgt. James, 2nd Lt. Charles, and Capt. Gage at the Mansion for dinner. At the end of the night, we were honored to receive a commemorative coin in recognition of our efforts to honor the fallen men and women serving our country. DEMONSTRATING EXCELLENCE AlphA OmegA COntinues tO thrive Despite COviD-19 setbACks Interfraternity Council Charity Cup IFC hosted its inaugural Charity Golf Tournament on October 3. The tournament raised $3,000 for Gainesville Thrives, a local nonprofit organization that works to promote childhood literacy in underprivileged communities. We were represented well at the event, with one team finishing in first place and one finishing fourth place. Brotherhood Spotlights Andres Cartaya '18 and James Wynn '18 are both fourth-year finance majors enrolled in the master's program for international business. Andre earned a 3.95 GPA and James earned a 3.97, showing their determination to excel in the classroom. They are also prominent voices in their graduate courses; they sit on the master's executive board. This past summer, Andres interned as a wealth analyst for Truist in Atlanta, and James worked for Morgan Stanley as a wealth management intern. I speak for all of Alpha Omega when I say that we are looking forward to watching these men thrive in the remainder of their time at UF as well as in their careers. Fall Initiation Alpha Omega was thrilled to initiate our fall 2021 class. Tyler Davis '18 and his Assistant Pledge Masters worked diligently to mold 53 young men into members of ATĪ©. I could not be prouder of this pledge class, and I'm excited to see them carry on the legacy of our Chapter. Looking Ahead At the time of this writing, we still have a lot to look forward to here in Gainesville, including officer elections, the Ryder Cup, Florida State game days, and our Christmas party. As always, we thank our loyal alumni for their constant dedication and support. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me via email, text, or phone call if you have any questions.
