Along with the housing boom, the hiring boom, and the population boom there's another
kind of boom drawing folks to Fayetteville.
It's the explosion of public art. The city's website defines public art simply as "art in public
spaces," and says it includes paintings and sculptures by renown artists, memorials, colorful
murals, integrated landscapes and architecture, light displays, digital media, community art,
performances, festivals, and more.
In many cases, the art is "site-specific" created especially for the community or for a certain
space. Take for example the painted utility boxes around town, the art-adorned crosswalks, and
storm drains, the hundreds of murals on buildings around town. If you haven't noticed it, you're
just not looking hard enough.
