e Washington Alpha Delt 4 many hands, one heart W hen J.P. Furber '84 joined Alpha Delta Phi, he formed bonds with many great Brothers—especially in his pledge class of 28 members. rough the Built to Last campaign, his class will memorialize four Brothers who have passed away over the years. J.P. and his Brothers discussed a group gi to the campaign, and together, 60 percent of the class purchased naming rights in the updated Chapter House for the late Grant Graybeal '84, Dave McKay '84, Chris Vasko '84, and Todd Miller '84; Todd died earlier this year. When the renovations are complete, the balcony room on the second floor will include a bronze plaque to commemorate the four Brothers. "ey were part of the reason why ADPhi was such a special place to live for so many people," J.P. said. Todd was J.P's best friend from high school, and he and Chris were both in J.P.'s wedding. With little recognition in the Built to Last campaign, J.P. has played a significant role behind the scenes. His younger brother, Brad Furber '86, encouraged him to help create the campaign website given his experience with the Shopify platform; J.P. and his wife use it for Elsie Green, their home furniture business. In the last year, his professional background made him an ideal volunteer to help select the products and furnishings going into the house as well as managing the delivery sourcing and logistics. J.P. plays an important role in selecting furniture items that fit the design of the interior of the Chapter. "My involvement has been a great opportunity to meet Brothers from different eras," J.P. noted. He has also reconnected with many Brothers from his undergraduate years and is particularly proud of the '80s era for their financial support in this campaign. As the new house's March opening draws near, J.P. and his Brothers hope to increase the number of individual donors in the Washington Chapter. "e point is to get as many people involved as possible; there's strength in numbers," he said. "ere are also dozens more opportunities for naming rights with other rooms in the house." If you'd like to connect with J.P. or learn more about naming opportunities, you can reach him at adphibuilttolast@gmail.com. A Home for a Special Brotherhood J.P. O n behalf of the undergraduate executive council, I would like to thank our members, parents, and alumni for their support. It's been a long journey since the pandemic first sent us home in March 2020, and we wouldn't have made it this far without the commitment of our supporters. e members of this Chapter faced resiliency in every way this past year. We persisted through online school (a remarkable feat), numerous COVID scares, the transition into a leased fraternity house, and much more. I can't recall a more difficult time since I joined the fraternity, and I'm extremely proud of the way these young men stepped up to every challenge thrown their way. is fall, there has been a renewed sense of energy around the house. anks to the hard work of Scott Calahan '22, Teddy Covich '22, and Tucker Loin '22, we welcomed a terrific group of new men into the fraternity. Many of our pledges have displayed a great sense of enthusiasm to be with us this year, and I'm confident they'll mature into a terrific group of leaders as we begin our transition to the remodeled Chapter House. We've also returned to school in person, and our upperclassmen are thrilled for our sophomore and freshman members to finally get the full UW experience. Did I mention we're now able to hold social events? is fall, we welcomed a plethora of alumni back to the renovated Chapter House for our first Homecoming celebration since 2019. We're looking forward to seeing you all in person at future events, whether that be at our Dad's Day football game, Mother-Son Dance, or the Chapter House reopening. As we approach the move-in date for the renovated Chapter House, I want to thank our generous Alumni and parents once again for their donations. I'd also like to thank our Alumni Board members, who have dedicated countless hours of their time to the project. Without them, it's no secret we wouldn't be where we are today. Howard, Steve, John, Bob, Jeff, Mike, Kyle, Tom, Nate, and Grant—thank you for all the selfless hours you dedicate to the fraternity every day. ough we'll continue to face challenges, I'm confident in the ability of our Chapter to uphold its long-standing reputation of excellence thanks to the quality of its membership. I'm humbled to play a role in the fraternal experience of so many outstanding young men, and I'm confident in their ability to leave a lasting, positive impact on the Washington Chapter for years to come.
