Heather was born January 7, 1987 in Rutherford County. She was a graduate of Chase High School, and a member of Victory Baptist Church in Ellenboro. She worked for American Miso of many years. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ava Brewer; grandparents, Gladys and Wayne Liverett, Jennings Matthew and Lorraine Lovelace. Those left to cherish her memory include her par- ents, Susan and John Short of Shelby; four sons, Bryson, Henry, Elijah and Jayse Brewer; brother, Matthew Lovelace (Becca) of Tulsa, OK; sister, Leighann Guffey; uncle, Bobby Guffey of Caroleen; half-brothers, John D. Short, Jr. of Sumter, SC and Johnathan Short of Shelby; half-sisters, Bambi Short of Gastonia and Brittany Mack (Andre) of Texas. A graveside service was held November 27, 2021 at the Victory Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Johnny McCarty officiating. Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services is serving the family. Captain Craig Bailey Captain Craig Robert Bailey, age 81, passed away November 20, 2021. Craig served in the US Navy from 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1964, as a missile man on some of the last diesel-pow- ered submarines ever com- missioned. This included his last stint on the USS Corporal a "spook boat" operating above the Arctic Circle. In 1965 he briefly attended the University of Iowa. He moved to Boston in 1966 and started his maritime career and family. Relocating to Miami, Florida in 1970, he began a series of stints on fishing vessels, yachts and merchant ships in the Atlantic, Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. By the early eighties he had turned his focus to commercial tow- ing. He kept working at sea into his 70's, as he moved to Western North Carolina. He is survived by his brother Jay Bailey, son; Frederick Bailey, daughter; Carina Bailey, one grand- daughter and ex-wife Blanca Lippisch. No services are planned at this time. Margie McGuinn Bailey Margie McGuinn Bailey, age 95, of Rutherfordton, died November 25, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Willie B. McGuinn and the late Gartha Bradley McGuinn. Margie was a native of Polk County and a mem- ber of Grays Creek Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Margie was pre- ceded in death by her hus- band Rev. Pharis Emmanuel Bailey; daughters Elizabeth Martin, Gertrude Maney and Carolyn Cooper; sons Harold Bailey, Adin Bailey and Leon Bailey; sisters Marie Earwood, Betty Coston; brothers Marvin McGuinn, Clarence McGuinn; grand- sons Jonathan Cooper, William Bailey. Survivors include son Samuel Hicks Bailey and wife Juanita, daughter Janice McSwain, twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, sisters Naomi Pressley and husband Robert, Ruby Seay and husband Bob and Ramona Turner, brother Marion McGuinn and wife Debra, sister-in-law Jane McGuinn. A graveside service was held December 1, 2021 at Big Level Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Randall Cooper and Rev. George Whitmire officiating. Mary Helen Vickers Mary Helen Vickers, age 87 of Forest City, died November 19, 2021. Helen was born on August 26, 1934, in Rutherford County and was the daughter of the late John Dean Shehan and Eula Dobbins Shehan. She was a member of Crestview Baptist Church where for 47 years she was church organist. Mary Helen worked for Hamrick, Nanney, Bowen and Dalton Attorneys as a paralegal. Prior to that, she worked for the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department under Sheriff Damon Huskey as the first female deputy in Rutherford County and later as secretary to the sheriff. Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Robert Cecil Vickers of the home, son, Robert Scott Vickers, and wife Denita of Forest City, daughter, Debbie Vickers Harris, and hus- band Scott of Rutherfordton, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one expectant great-grand- child. The funeral was held November 23, 2021, at Crestview Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Rohm offi- ciating. Memorials may be made to Fairhaven of Forest City, Patient Activity fund, 830 Bethany Church Rd., Forest City, NC 28043. Reverend Pherson Weatherman Reverend Pherson Weatherman, age 66, of Ellenboro, passed away November 22, 2021. Pherson was born October 31, 1955 in Rutherford County to the late Charles "Buck" Weatherman and Sarah Dolan McDaniel Weatherman. He served the Lord as a Minister of the Gospel for over 35 years and was most recent- ly the Associate Pastor of the Ellenboro Community Church. Pherson also worked for Master Craft for 40 years. He was a volun- teer Chaplain at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills and a graduate of Fruitland Bible College. Those left to cher- ish his memory include his wife of 27 years, Carol Wilson Weatherman; daugh- ters, Angie Butler (Willie) of Forest City, Michelle Johnson (Danny) of Marion, Marina Weatherman of the home; sons, Pherson Weatherman II (Renea) of Forest City, Wayne Finley (Candi) of Chesnee and Cameron Weatherman of the home; sisters, Penny Bradley (Johnny) and Patricia Terry all of Forest City, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The funeral was held November 29, 2021 at Wilson Baptist Church with Rev. Neil Murray and Rev. Cliff Wilson officiating. Memorial donations requested to Harrelson Funeral Home, 1251 US Hwy 221A, Forest City, NC 28043 to help defray funeral costs. Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services is serving the family. David Neal Lawton David Neal Lawton, 58, passed away November 17, 2021. David is survived by caretaker, Joy Cooper Williams "Mom"; special friend, Tim Boone "Dad". David was a member of Drury Dobbins Church. A Celebration of Life Service was held November 28, 2021 at Drury Dobbins Baptist Church. Obituaries Obituaries Obituaries Obituaries Marching, running, riding, playing music and handing out candy on down Main Street in Forest City on Sunday were hundreds of parade participants while literally thousands of parade watchers lined the street. Folks, young and old, gathered with their chairs hours before the parade kicked off at 3 p.m. and just after 4 p.m. Santa brought up the year. Schools, dance groups, churches, bands, businesses and even Grinch were well represented. On Saturday, December 4, the Spindale parade kicks off at 3:30 and the Rutherfordton parade kicks off at 5 p.m. On Sunday, December 5 head down to Ellenboro for the event at 3 p.m. Forest City Christmas Parade Article & Photos Provided By: Jean Gordon
