W hen Sarah Smith Dubbert '96 walked through the Kappa Delta doors for the first time, the familiar face of a Missouri Girls State counselor held the door for her. Once inside, she ended up seeing several other familiar faces and knew right then that this chapter would help her continue to grow personally and professionally alongside these amazing women. Sarah would come to find that many of her lifelong personal and professional friendships would all be rooted in her experience at Mizzou. "Is it cliché to just say that most of my wedding party were my KΔ sisters?" Sarah joked. "I would not recognize my life now without Epsilon Iota as a huge foundational piece! Kappa Delta helped me develop my leadership skills while supporting me in my involvement in campus organizations." During her time as a collegian, Sarah served on council and was elected to the Homecoming court. She has volunteered on the local CAB and the National Leadership team. Through the leadership positions she held, Sarah came to know and appreciate all the volunteer efforts it takes to have a successful chapter on a campus as large as MU. After graduating, there was no question that she wanted to give back in the same way. "I developed a passion for helping the next generations of KΔ members remain competitive and continue a growth trajectory," Sarah said. Of course, volunteering for Kappa Delta is one of the many hats Sarah wears—she serves in the role of National Vice President-Finance for Kappa Delta and as a capital campaign committee member for EI. "It's great to get to know additional alumnae through the virtual convention and various volunteer activities," Sarah shares. "I have enjoyed talking with EI alumnae and hearing their memories of the house and how their lives have been impacted by this experience." Sarah shares what National Kappa Delta has in store for our sisters, both active and alumnae: "It's important we continue to provide opportunities and experiences that foster personal and professional growth for both collegiate and alumnae members," Sarah said. "We must keep our focus on providing programming and safe environments that offers women the confidence to develop leadership skills, excel on the academic stage, become responsible global citizens, and be their true and authentic selves." Outside of Kappa Delta, Sarah works as executive vice president of commercial banking and division manager for Central and Southeast Missouri at Commerce Bank. She never thought she would end up in banking since finance has, and continues to be, a male-dominated industry, and she does not have a business degree; however, Sarah persevered and leveraged the professional contacts, including those gained through volunteering with Kappa Delta, to help her succeed in her career. She even became the first female in her position, which has been an honor and highlight of Sarah's career. Sarah enjoys traveling and attending events at MU, like Homecoming. "My sons just loved house decs this year at Homecoming," Sarah said. "It was so nice to see things getting a bit more back to normal and seeing the school spirit out on display!"
