Notes from MIZ KΔ KAPPA DELTA | UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI | FALL 2021 H omecoming invokes both wistful nostalgia and eager anticipation. On a beautiful sunny October 9, both emotions were evident at the Kappa Delta Homecoming alumnae tailgate. We feel fortunate that we had the chance to gather again after the chaos from the past year and a half. We had a prime location along Tiger Avenue directly across the street from the Kappa Delta house, making for a rousing success at the 2021 Homecoming tailgate! There was eager anticipation as first-year alumnae "came home" for the first time in their new role. No longer collegians, they were thrilled to enjoy Homecoming festivities from the other side and celebrate their hard work that earned them alumnae status. Everyone enjoyed local Buckingham's barbecue, refreshments, and, of course, trays of Stan's chocolate cake! Mom Marit bravely carried a large tray of Epsilon Iota Chapter's favorite dessert across the street to the tailgate. She's one-of-kind! Kappa Delta sends a thank-you to the Stuckel family for staking out the location and coordinating the refreshments, buttons, signs, tents, and other details. The tailgate would not have been as successful if it weren't for their efforts. Alumnae from all ages and geographic locations, including Boston, Dallas, and Phoenix, enjoyed the spectacular day of reconnecting, making memories, and sharing stories between versed alumnae and newer alumnae. There were shrieks of recognition filling the air as sisters became reacquainted after too much time apart. Women were overjoyed to spark new connections too; a common question overheard on numerous occasions was, "When did you pledge?" We had a visit from National VP Finance Sarah Smith Dubbert '96, and many friends and family members joined in the fun. Sisterhood and connection were the first order of the day. The second order of the day was the revealing of the plans for our eagerly anticipated new renovation and expansion of the Kappa Delta house. Many architectural renderings were displayed around the tailgate as alumnae expressed intrigue over exciting things to come. Alumnae in attendance clearly saw the recent construction activity in Greektown, which made the necessity for this long overdue renovation of our beloved house more apparent, especially if Kappa Delta is to remain a competitive chapter at Mizzou. As a reminder, the Homecoming alumnae tailgate is an annual event, so be sure and mark your calendars for October 22, 2022, to come home to Columbia and watch Mizzou take on Vanderbilt. Following the tailgate, we invite you to celebrate Kappa Delta's 125th anniversary on October 23, 2022. It's going to be a huge weekend, and you won't want to miss out on the fun. See you there!
