Email: rbrussell39@gmail.com BROTHERHOOD BULLETIN Continued on page 8 A Collaboration Like No Other Help Florida Alpha Support the Special Olympics T o me, the Special Olympics means kindness, acceptance, positivity, and philia (brotherly love). The Special Olympics is an organization that promotes the inclusivity of individuals with intellectual disabilities through sport. I have been involved in the Special Olympics since my sophomore year of high school. As part of my involvement, I have been a partner, coach, ambassador, club president, and student board member. Since joining Florida Alpha in February, I have encountered similar experiences of acceptance and brotherly love within the Chapter. This past summer, I began to work on ways to connect these two organizations that I am so passionate about. On December 4, our Special Olympics Club on campus will help host the Special Olympics Florida's Race for Inclusion. I am so excited that Florida Alpha will be participating in the race. Each brother will have the opportunity to participate as runners by raising money for Special Olympics Florida. Additionally, Florida Alpha will be competing with other Greek chapters on campus for the race's top donation award. Please feel free to contribute to the Florida Alpha team at the link below: https://give.specialolympicsflorida. org/site/TR/Virtual5K/General?team_ id=2458&pg=team&fr_id=1482 Florida Alpha will also be volunteering for Special Olympics as both partners (teammates with individuals with intellectual disabilities) and as fans in the stands. Plans are in the works for brothers to design posters to cheer on athletes at games. Because of this start, I hope to begin a partnership between SigEp brothers and Special Olympics that will outlast my time in the Chapter. I will be presenting these opportunities at Chapter, and I am excited to share one of my biggest passions. I am not only excited because it brings Special Olympics more volunteers— and hopefully more donations—but also that I may be able to bring a similar experience to my brothers that I have had during my time volunteering for Special Olympics. The Special Olympics has legitimately changed my life. It has unlocked an altruistic, compassionate, and positive part of me that was previously dormant. Each moment I have been able to engage with athletes has brought me 100 times more in return. That gift is something I hope to share with my brothers. If I can not only help impact Special Olympics athlete's lives, but also benefit my brothers and leave a mark on Florida Alpha, I would be humbled and overjoyed. I want my brothers to have the chance to meet my Special Olympics family and ignite a passion for helping others. Fraternally, Will Munro '24 Will Munro '24 plays floorball with Special Olympics Athletes in Shanghai, China, in September 2018.
