THE RED DOOR p. 2 When it came time to pass out the Buchannan Cup, the highest honor a SigEp chapter can achieve, there was little hope on the Alabama Beta side. A solid application was submitted after two years of hard work, but Jack thought the next cycle would favor the Chapter more. To the surprise of everybody, Alabama Beta won its first-ever Buch Cup. When the Chapter's name was called, everyone looked at each other in disbelief, especially Chapter advisor Larry Whitman '85. "Mr. Whitman, Joey, and I all looked at each other in shock," said Jack. "It was a special moment between the three of us, being so surprised and knowing what hard work we have put into the Chapter—especially Mr. Whitman. For me, the best part about winning the Buch Cup is knowing how much time alumni and volunteers have put into the Chapter. We see this award as the beginning affirmation of our success since being back on campus, not simply the accomplishment of a short, two-year goal." We look forward to using this recognition to create a new 10 - to 15 - year vision for our Chapter that will help us succeed at both the University of Alabama and nationally.
