4 I t is no secret that Alpha Nu faced many unprecedented challenges last year in the wake of the pandemic; regardless, we are happy to report chapter academics, involvement, and tradition have remained strong at 1425 Tennessee St. The house finished second in grades for spring 2021 with an impressive 3.52 house GPA. Thankfully, the annual Rock Chalk Revue philanthropy event was able to occur with only a few changes. Along with the Pi Beta Phi sorority, the men of Beta spent months preparing to record their musical in a Hamilton-style production. The recording was then unveiled at a large outdoor showing, where the house took home awards for Best Costume, Best Choreography, and Audience Choice. The 137th annual Turkey Pull also took on a new look last year. Due to gathering limits in Douglas County, Turkey Pull was pushed to the spring and held at the Jayhawk Club in Lawrence, Kansas. It may not have been the most ideal and traditional Turkey Pull event, but the night was enjoyed and cherished by all who attended. The return to the Hutt this fall was highly anticipated. With in-person classes and many campus activities returning, we are excited to get back to work in the house—together. Members are looking forward to getting involved in philanthropy, clubs, and programs on the hill, such as Natural Ties, Entrepreneurship Club, and Finance Scholars. The new members are quickly excelling in classes, involvement, and brotherhood. We are excited to see what the future holds for such a promising class. Overall, spirits at the Hutt are high and hopeful for a great year. We look forward to building upon the great foundation that has been laid for us by Alpha Nu alumni and are excited to maintain Beta's reputation as the top chapter on campus. To many more adventures with my incredible brothers! Yours in _kai_, Jake Hiss '23 Chapter President (913) 209-0699 | alphanu.btp@gmail.com Chapter Update from president Jake hiss '23 Reflecting on the Past Year as Excitement Builds for the Current Year THE FRATERNITY EXPERIENCE IS MORE RELEVANT TO TODAY'S COLLEGE STUDENTS THAN EVER BEFORE Recent research on fraternities and sororities demonstrates how positive the impact of the Greek experience—and the ΒΘΠ experience—is for undergraduates today. Both inside and outside the classroom, we are providing tangible value at the most important time of growth in their lives. Membership improves the learning gains students make in the classroom, and members are more academically engaged than their peers. Members are more involved in campus activities than other students, and Greek organizations promote both personal development during and satisfaction in their college experience. Fraternities and sororities seek to enhance inclusivity, and our members actually report higher levels of interaction with people different from themselves compared to unaffiliated students. These benefits are even greater for first-year students as they join fraternities and sororities and find community and belonging. This leads to stronger retention and higher graduation rates among Greek students than their peers. As many college students experience stress, loneliness and depression, fraternities and sororities offer critical connection and a sense of community, and members report higher levels of positive mental health than their unaffiliated peers because of it.
