We loved every opportunity to spend time with sisters and hope you did as well. While we all made lifelong friends, there may be some sisters we've lost touch with. So much has happened in our lives since becoming alumnae. Sisters have started families and careers, made a big move, traveled, or done a little bit of everything! There are so many life events to keep track of, and we want to hear about all of them. That's why we've created our very first print newsletter, Chi Chapter Chatter. We couldn't be more excited about this opportunity to keep everyone connected. In this newsletter, you'll find all the updates you've wanted to know about Chi Chapter. This includes updates on the Collegiate Chapter, upcoming events, and interviews with our alumnae! This is all in an effort to ensure you know what's happening with your sisters. We want to keep our information about alumnae correct so we don't lose touch with anyone. You'll receive yearly forms asking if your contact information is correct. It'll also ask if you have any life news to share. Let your sisters know what you've been up to, and your responses could be featured in one of our issues. Let's kick it off with a recap of our recent 50th birthday celebration at 2006 South Elm. In July 1971, the Chapter house was about 10 years old and had been rented by Chi Chapter for several years. A leap of faith was taken by a group of alumnae who purchased the house for $35,000. Since then, our house has been a wonderful home for hundreds of Sigma sisters. The great pride and hundreds of memories held by all who have donned its doors are unified in our chapter's history. On September 11, 2021, more than 100 sisters, both active and alumnae, of Chi Chapter came together at the sorority house to celebrate the purchase and ownership of our house 50 years ago! Sisters traveled near and far and we greeted pledge classes ranging from 1940 all the way to 2021. It was amazing to see over 80 years of sisterhood in one place! Those in attendance enjoyed Chicken Annie's Original chicken (a Southeast Kansas favorite), birthday cake and cookies, and tours of the house. Alumnae had the opportunity to reminisce over old scrapbooks and a wonderful video created for the event. In addition, everyone who registered for the event received a beautiful wooden memento depicting the house, and t-shirts celebrating the event were sold. It was truly a memorable time! We were joined by our special guest, Dr. Steve Scott, president of Pittsburg State University, who was on hand to share how Greek organizations, like Tri Sigma, play a huge role in the success of the university. He recognized and thanked the members of Chi Chapter for their continued leadership across campus. We're so proud and happy that you're a member of Chi Chapter. It doesn't matter if a year has passed or 20, we will always be sisters. We're excited to stay connected with you. Her best friend in high school, Janell Knuth '69, chose to follow in her family's footsteps at Kansas State College of Pittsburg (now Pittsburg State University), including joining Tri Sigma like her older sisters. Paula ultimately decided to enroll there as well but "gave all the sororities an equal chance to recruit me." "There was this special 'it' factor with Tri Sigma that pulled me in," Paula said. "The group was a diverse mix of small-town and large-city girls, and I felt I could relate to both. They seemed to be a close-knit group—a family away from family." Bonding with the sisters taught her to accept compromise, exhibit humility, and celebrate one another's successes. "My leadership abilities from that experience pointed me toward a lifetime of volunteering and leadership roles." It also led to her lifelong devotion to Tri Sigma and Pitt State.
