publisher's note Bittersweet goodbyes and promising hellos PWC is Taking Emergency Preparation by Storm We're always hopeful we can avoid weather's wrath. However, in the event of a hurricane or another emergency situation, PWC has a pro-active plan of operations. Our crews stand ready to swing into action as soon as it's safe, and we're prepared to work 'round the clock to restore your service. We encourage you, too, to be prepared. Keep a disaster "kit" on hand, have a family emergency plan, and become familiar with safety tips such as never touch a downed power line. You'll find more important tips on our website. Also, be sure PWC has your current phone number so our emergency call-in system can identify you immediately. To report a power outage or an emergency (such as a tree limb on a power line or water main break), call 1-877-OUR-PWC1. Follow us on Facebook, Nixle and Twitter to keep up with the latest news, advisories and official information. www.faypwc.com Stop. Think. Put Safety First. 10 | July/August • 2013 B oy does time fly. Summer is in full effect and half of 2013 has already slipped by us. Thinking back to my youth, days spent during summer vacation from school were a delight, but left us yearning for more from September to June. However, the older we get those days go by much faster and our calendars seem more full. Kicking off summer, Sandee and I presented our 8th annual Robert Lyon Waren (Bob) Award at Fayetteville Academy's ceremony for seniors. Following our son's death in 2006 to kidney cancer, the Academy faculty and staff asked us to present the award as a way to honor Bob for his own accolades throughout the years. Like Bob, he was president of the junior class and a finalist for the prestigious Morehead-Cain Scholarship. Brooks also accomplished the feat of having a 98.7 grade point average. In starting a new tradition, CityView will recognize the winner on these pages each year. This year's award winner is Brooks Keener, the son of Millie and Jim Keener. Congratulations to Brooks for a job well done. A New Chapter at CityView
For our longtime CityView subscribers and advertisers, you have noticed over the last three years how much the quality of the magazine has improved and the content has been outstanding. The main reason for this improvement has been our senior editor, Rebekah Sanderlin. She has done a stellar job for three years with our company and we are sorry she has moved to Florida with her husband's military assignment. We will greatly miss her talents, but expect her to write for us from time to time. Also, we have lost our administrator Anne Ancona, whose husband finished his tour of duty and they moved back to his hometown in California. Anne was only with us one and a half years but made a tremendous impact on the health of our company, implementing efficient protocols. She was in charge of getting all the advertising organized for our art director and she had a hand in most everything else behind the scenes at the magazine. We will miss Anne's spirit and love for her work. Bringing the same spirit and work ethic to CityView we welcome two new employees. Miriam Landru, our associate editor, comes from a similar professional background in Hawaii. She worked for several publications and was a producer for a morning news show. Hailing from Texas, Jordan Williams is doing a great job of filling Anne's heels. Be sure to welcome Miriam and Jordan when you see them around or interface with them as they contribute their talents to our publication for years to come.
