The Lion & The Ladybug 2 Why did you decide to join Phi Mu? I was entering Georgia College and State University as an incoming freshman, and I did not know many others at the school. I joined to be part of a sisterhood, and to feel like I had a home away from home. What did your undergraduate experience with Phi Mu mean to you? Could you share some of your favorite memories? My undergraduate experience was the best I could possibly imagine. I thoroughly enjoyed every social, chapter, and philanthropy event, and every ounce of sisterhood I could get. We had the best pledge class, and I made friends for life. What made you take on the role of advisor? I served as membership director for my chapter at Georgia College and State University for a few years, and I have loved every second of being involved with recruitment! When Alpha Delta was looking for a new advisor, I got an email from Headquarters asking if I would be interested, and I jumped on the opportunity! I really thrive in a role such as this, and I really connected with the active girls. What kind of plans do you see in the future for the Chapter? We have been thrown a curveball this year with the new guidelines for recruitment, and I'll say that coming off of a global pandemic, we have a lot of work to do. I am looking forward to helping our girls transition back to full in-person Chapter meetings and socials and stepping away from our life of Zoom! I cannot wait to help guide these girls through their best recruitment yet. What is one unique asset that sets Phi Mu apart from other sororities? Coming from GCSU's chapter in Milledgeville, Georgia, we were only 30 miles from Wesleyan, where the Philomathean Society was founded in January of 1852. We took every pledge class there—including for some of our initiations! Phi Mu is fondly called one of the Macon Magnolias, which is a term that explains the bond Phi Mu shares with Alpha Delta Pi: both of these sororities were founded a year apart on the same campus, by a set of roommates. I truly believe that we can say we are the best of the best, and all other sororities are simply an imitation! What an honor I have had to be so connected to the area where Phi Mu began. How do you keep a healthy work/life balance? While I juggle quite a bit, between owning my interiors and gift business, being on the LeBonheur Club board, and the Junior League of Memphis board, I have found that while I'm allowing myself to throw myself into things I am passionate about, it helps me keep a great balance and outlook on life. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Do you have any hobbies? My hobbies include antiquing, painting, and traveling. I thrive off of a last-minute, thrown-together weekend trip with my longtime boyfriend, Sid, and our two dogs, Winnie and Lulu. With me owning a business and Sid being semi-retired, we have the luxury of traveling quite often. Is there anything else you would like to add about your time with the Phi Mu Chapter? I am most excited about seeing Alpha Delta grow and come out of this pandemic, where we have been all stuck at home, and seeing these young women flourish. I am honored to be Alpha Delta's advisor.
