It's always a heartbreak when a classic television star leaves us, and such was the case when Gavin MacLeod passed on May 29. Nostalgia channels can be a big help in dealing with the hurt if they showcase the given talent's series ... and in MacLeod's case, his two most classic shows are available to see weekdays on Decades. Though he initially auditioned for the role of newsroom boss Lou Grant, MacLeod felt slyly sarcastic news writer Murray Slaughter would be a better fit for him ... and the producers agreed, thus making him part of the much-loved ensemble cast of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show." Soon after that ended its run, legendary TV-series-maker Aaron Spelling summoned MacLeod to become the Pacific Princess' Captain Merrill Stubing on "The Love Boat." Both still-popular ventures made the 1970s (and beyond) an extremely fruitful period for MacLeod and his many fans. Gavin MacLeod's legacy keeps sailing BY JAY BOBBIN "Movie: Safer at Home" Set in Los Angeles during the COVID-19 pandemic, this 2021 thriller follows the terrifying series of events that ensue when a group of friends decide to throw a wild online party from what they thought was the safety of their homes. Will Wernick ("No Escape") directs a cast of largely unknowns. "Movie: The Tomorrow War" From director Chris McKay ("The Lego Movie") comes this sci-fi drama set in the year 2051, where time travelers from 30 years in the future warn mankind that a losing battle against a deadly alien species is in their future. Chris Pratt stars as a man who teams up with a scientist and his estranged father to try to rewrite the planet's fate. (ORIGINAL) "Movie: America: The Motion Picture" Get ready for a dose of tongue-in-cheek revisionist history in this animated comedy film, which follows a chainsaw- wielding George Washington as he joins forces with beer-swilling Sam Adams, scientist Thomas Edison, horseman Paul Revere and a cranky Geronimo to take down the Brits in the American Revolution. "The Happiest Millionaire" (Available now) Fred MacMurray was in the midst of his long run on "My Three Sons" when he starred in this 1967 comedy as an eccentric Philadelphia millionaire who hires a clever Irish immigrant (British pop star Tommy Steele) to be his butler.
