Page 7 R obert Vernon Alcorn '52-616 passed away June 29, 2019, at the age of 87, in Eureka, CA, where he had moved in December 2018 to be near family. He was born in Cedar Rapids, IA, on January 10, 1932. He and his parents moved to Long Beach in 1938. During his youth, he was a member of the Boy Scouts and e Order of De Molay. Aer graduating from Long Beach Polytechnic High School in 1949, he continued his education at Long Beach City College then Oregon State, graduating in 1953. A few years later he earned his MBA from Long Beach State University. During his college years Bob was in the Navy ROTC, so upon graduation he joined the Navy and served aboard the USS Los Angeles with the JAG office. During this time, Bob married Miriam "Willy" Willis, whom he had met while they both attended college in Oregon. Following an honorable discharge from the Navy, Bob and Willy made their home in Long Beach, where they raised their two children, Lauren and Michael. He found his career with the Standard Register Co., where he was a sales manager, retiring in 1988 aer 35 years of service. While in Long Beach, Bob received the degrees of Freemasonry at Bixby Knowles Lodge. He later affiliated with Central Arizona Lodge in Sedona, AZ, and received his Golden Veteran's award there in 2013 for 50 years of service. Bob and Willy moved to Sedona and built their dream home aer his retirement. ey enjoyed volunteering in their community, including the library, the Humane Society, the Adult Community Center, Meals on Wheels, and the Jazz on the Rocks Festival each year, finding great satisfaction in helping others. Willy went to be with the Lord in 2002 and le an emptiness in Bob's heart that he carried the rest of his life. However, he remained active in his volunteer endeavors and social pursuits. He was a member of the Village of Oak Creek Church of the Nazarene where he found many years of fellowship and support and renewed his faith. Family and friends from around the country frequently stopped to visit and enjoy one of his personalized tours of the Sedona area. Everywhere Bob traveled, he made friends easily with his warm, outgoing nature and sense of humor. He cherished his longtime friendships and loved his family dearly. He was a role model and mentor to many throughout his life. Bob enjoyed woodworking, traveling, hunting, fishing, jazz music, and especially people. Time spent with good friends at the cabin in the mountains was a family favorite and a favorite of many friends. Bob will be greatly missed by his family and friends. J erry Coleman Davis '53-625 passed away April 17, 2020. He was born on September 16, 1933 in Portland, OR. His father, Bert Davis, was a pharmacist and owned Davis Rexall Drug store across the street from where Jerry was raised. When Jerry was old enough, he delivered prescriptions to people that could not come to the store. Bert's plan was for Jerry to follow in his footsteps, becoming a pharmacist and eventually taking over his business. In Jerry's style, he started college at Oregon State to become a pharmacist but found business more to his liking. He was introduced to Ardie Colgrove, and she became the love of his life. ey were married in August 1955 and enjoyed 64 years of marriage. Jerry took care of Ardie, in later years, as her Alzheimer's worsened. It was touching to see the kindness and love he showed her during this time. In his last seven months of his life, he missed having Ardie live with him, but she was close by and she lived with their son, Eric, and daughter-in-law, Margo. Aer graduating college, he fulfilled his ROTC commitment and was stationed in Germany. is was a place to start new beginnings. He met lifelong friends and had many fun adventures with them. e Davis VW Bug family was born when he brought a VW Bug back to the U.S. He loved cars and worked in the industry for many years. When Ardie wanted to adopt a child, they started the process and in 1963 Eric. Two years later aer coming home from an Oregon State football game with Eric, he said to Ardie, "It's time to adopt a daughter," and Katrina joined the Davis family in February 1966. He enjoyed traveling, driving and watching storms roll in at the coast, chatting with friends and participating in organizations. Jerry passed on to his children the importance of family and heritage, the sharing of family stories, the love of family, taking care of business and finances, and being there for each other. roughout his life Jerry made many friends who remember him fondly. F rank Edwin Dentel '66-785 passed away on January 12, 2020, in Beaverton, OR. Frank was born September 4, 1946, in Tillamook, OR. He married Christine Hoyt in 2004. Frank loved traveling, tennis, and sports. He had a sharp wit and zest for life. R emember it takes just a few moments to create a legacy that will benefit many future generations of Lambda Chis at Oregon State. You will make a meaningful difference in their lives while ensuring that our chapter retains its position as a strong leader in Oregon State's Greek system. By including Alpha Lambda in your estate planning, you can play in important role in preserving our shared legacy. You can name the Alpha Lambda Chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha as a beneficiary on any of your financial accounts by simply filling out a beneficiary designation form from your financial institution and specifying the amount of your gi. is process is fast, and simple, and does not require an attorney to accomplish. With this simple method there is no need to revise your will or other existing estate planning documents. Of course, you may also create your legacy through your will or trust if that is a better fit for your situation.
