Omicron alumnae and friends returned to the Alpha Phi chapter house, both in person and virtually, to say "Farewell to 906" on Saturday and Sunday, May 14-15, 2021. Hundreds of sisters came to say goodbye to their Mizzou home and to celebrate the exciting plans for a new house, scheduled for completion in Summer 2022. (Spoiler alert: you'll no longer need to crawl through a window to get to the sun porch!) Plans for a future ribbon-cutting and dedication will be announced next year. Amid illustrations and floorplans of the new building, visitors delighted in seeing sisters from college days and reminiscing about time spent living in the house and annex. Many were clad in tee shirts depicting the existing Alpha Phi façade, captioned "I Lived in the Original 906"; postcards featuring a beautiful drawing of the existing house were available as keepsakes. Some alumnae paged through Savitars from the 50s, 60s and later years, while others explored hallways of the upper floors to find familiar composites. Virtual visitors enjoyed a walking tour through the building via Zoom, hosted by collegians who answered questions and found individual pictures from the past. There was laughter ringing from every corner, with lots of sentimental memories and stories. Not since the 2010 Centennial have so many Omicrons returned to Columbia to be with cherished sisters. Thanks to Amy Jordan '87 and her planning committee for a fun and memorable event, and to everyone else who participated! During reconstruction, the chapter will temporarily be located at 805 Richmond Avenue, where members will have weekday lunches, small gatherings and comfortable living and study areas. Fall recruitment events will also take place at this location. Only the house director will reside there, but it will serve as the meeting place for Omicron members for the next 12-14 months. FAREWELL TO 906 HUNDREDS OF SISTERS SEND OFF OMICRON'S LONGTIME HOME IN STYLE Friends gathered around Ann Clark Gafke '57 and her family of Omicron legacies. Campaign committee member Erin McKenna Riske '03 with her sisters from the early 2000s. Ladies from the 1980s still know how to have fun! Alumnae came from St. Louis, Kansas City, and out of state to mark the occasion.
