KAPPA KAPPA GAMMA 5 T here's no doubt that this past year was full of challenges and uncertainty, but in true Gamma Zeta fashion we made the best of it. This spring semester featured a lot of learning and finding innovative ways to foster sisterhood, but it was nice to have some semblance of normalcy return as well. We held our first date dash in more than a year, many girls began attending in-person classes and club meetings, and our sisters in the Class of 2021 walked at graduation. Creativity and patience were key this semester, and we are finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. After the fall 2020 semester, our cumulative chapter GPA was a 3.58, which ranked Kappa second among the Panhellenic sororities. Among the new member classes, Gamma Zeta finished the first semester strong with its 3.73 GPA being the highest on campus. We are still awaiting the spring 2021 rankings, but our hard work has already been recognized, as Gamma Zeta received the Order of Omega: Excellence or Achievement for 2020 Standards of Excellence Award. Gamma Zeta participated in its first internal fundraiser this spring. The Kappa Kampaign encouraged family, friends, and alumnae to contribute about $3,500 toward scholarships and house and safety improvements. Due to COVID-19, we unfortunately couldn't go forward with our annual event, Hoops for Hope. Instead, Molly Thomack '19 coordinated a virtual raffle. With numerous great prizes, we raised $8,000 for Pathway to Work. For the fall 2021 recruitment process, Tatum Johnson '18 and the recruitment team have been recruiting virtually and in person while still managing to portray Kappa Kappa Gamma's core principles and values both face to face and through a computer screen. By first recruiting virtually through Zoom, active members have the opportunity to strip away any excess frill or fuss and get to know the potential new members on a deep and authentic level. Transitioning to an in-person preference ceremony ties the experience together by putting a physical body with the words and personalities of the women with whom we have met and become connected with through the beginning virtual process. Throughout the year, Paige Wightman '19 and sisters participated in many workshops surrounding diversity within the Greek community. With topics surrounding mental health, race equality, and sexual violence, our sisters were educated on how to help and heal our community. We also honored 60-plus women who became Gamma Zeta alumnae by recognizing their major accomplishment of graduation through ritual ceremonies and celebrations! We are so proud of them and can't wait to see where life takes them. They understand that Kappa isn't just four years; it's for life.
