page 2 Setting goals is another aspect that keeps her motivated and striving for more in her career. "I recommend setting goals every year, as well as every five years, to give yourself something to work toward," she stated. "If you're unsure what you want to do, ask around or even see if you can shadow someone on the job to see if you will enjoy that career path before you get started." Although she ended up transferring from KU to complete her nursing degree at Rockhurst University, her time with Tri Delta was unforgettable and made a lasting impact. "Tri Delta definitely shaped who I am in a variety of ways," she said. "As an only child, living with such a large group of women was an incredibly interesting experience. I met so many different people, learned about them, and grew as a person since my sisters helped and influenced me. It was nice to feel like part of a family and something bigger than myself." She has far too many wonderful memories from Tri Delta to pick only one favorite, but one that has stuck with her the most is her experience participating in Rock Chalk Revue. "To be chosen as one of five to perform was so exciting and a ton of fun. I formed strong bonds with my sisters in Theta Omega, as well as the fraternity we were paired with," she explained. "I loved the dancing, singing, make-up, costumes, planning parties, working toward a common goal, the overall morale, and building connections within the Greek community." To this day, she's still best friends with and talks almost daily to one of the male leads from the fraternity Tri Delta was paired with for Rock Chalk Revue. While she admittedly hasn't stayed closely connected to Theta Omega Chapter as an alumna, there are still sisters she's kept in touch with during the last 10 years, and she appreciates the lifelong bonds Tri Delta provides. "I've met many Tri Deltas since college at KU, and it automatically helps me bond with those women," she said. "Many of us have gone on to work in the medical field, so we cross paths quite often!" Steph obtained a master's degree from Research College of Nursing in Kansas City, Missouri. After seven years as an ICU nurse and two years working for a trauma and general surgery group at a level one trauma center, she recently began as a nurse practitioner with a private hospital group. Steph and her husband, Greg, whom she met at KU, reside in Kansas City, Missouri. A MEANINGFUL CAREER (Continued from page 1) Evan Svetlak '18, Cora Downs Scholarship recipient. "Applying for the scholarship was beneficial because not only is college tuition expensive but also being a member of a sorority can be very expensive," Evan said. "I'm thankful that Theta Omega has the ability to provide women with scholarships to help them with these costs. I'm also thankful I received a scholarship and had my service and leadership in the chapter recognized. I'm so grateful for the opportunities Theta Omega Chapter has given me." Christina Valdez '18, Barbara Lawrence Leadership Scholarship recipient. Courtney Marx '18, Noreen Checchi Dupriest Scholarship recipient. "It's definitely worth applying for scholarships because it's a way to get financial help from Tri Delta (out-of-state tuition is a lot and every bit helps!)," she stated. "It was also cool writing an essay about what Tri Delta means to me and reflecting on my past three years here. Tri Delta has helped me become the woman I am today and has helped me grow so much!" Katie Shipley '19, Cora Downs Scholarship recipient. "I applied for the scholarship because the scholarships were very accessible, and Director of Academic Excellence Alyssa Hinden '19 made them very easy to apply for!" Soleil Rucker '19, Pat Domann Most Exemplary Member Scholarship recipient.
