THETA OMEGA page 3 T his spring was a learning experience for everyone. With the ongoing pandemic, we had to adapt to the environment around us while also trying to keep our sisterhood alive. It wasn't an easy task, but with the help of our entire chapter, we made it through together. So many women stepped up to the plate and worked diligently to make the spring semester memorable despite all the challenges. GRATEFUL TO GIVE BACK AGAIN While still following university, Douglas County, and CDC guidelines, we were able to host a few events. Director of Lifetime Membership Emily Gegg '19 did an outstanding job planning Mom's Weekend and Pansy Brunch for our seniors. It was so nice to have our moms back in Lawrence with a beautiful brunch and Bunco tournament! Director of Philanthropy Lauren Terry '19 did an amazing job organizing our philanthropic events for the spring semester. This spring, we raised $57,591 for St. Jude through our fundraisers, including 10K in a Day, Delta Diner, percentage nights, t-shirt sales, Mom's Weekend auction sales, and other donations. We are hoping to reach a goal of $60,000 by the end of the year! AIMING FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE Director of Academic Excellence Alyssa Hinden '19 took time to recognize academic members of the month this spring. One of our recent academic members of the month was Emma Bartelsen '19, who was awarded the Genentech's Outstanding Student Award. She was the only student from KU selected for this $5,500 scholarship and summer internship at the Genentech HQ in San Francisco. Additionally, Alyssa gifted something special to every Tri Delta sister who received a 4.0 GPA for the fall 2020 semester. We had an astounding 44 women receive a 4.0! EXPANDING CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING AND HORIZONS We were excited to keep expanding our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee this spring. Our chairwomen, Payton Smith '20 and Grace Hoge '20, hosted weekly meetings to create an open space for women to talk about important issues regarding DEI. At each chapter meeting, we spent time discussing DEI in hopes to further educate our sisterhood at KU. We look forward to being able to create an open dialogue where women can have the tough, and sometimes uncomfortable, yet necessary conversations. THETA OMEGA ACCOLADES This year, Theta Omega won the Kathleen Davis Nye Panhellenic and Community Relations Award. The award was presented to Theta Omega in February and revealed to all Tri Delta chapters at the Collegiate Leadership Conference in March. This award recognizes chapters that have committed to sharing the Tri Delta experience through effective public relations, marketing, and media efforts both online and offline, reflecting a positive image of the chapter and Tri Delta brands while upholding the values of and positively contributing to the Panhellenic experience on campus. Last year, Our Community Relations team worked hard to build connections both on campus and throughout the City of Lawrence. This team, led by Courtney Marx '18, worked nonstop through an incredibly strange year to help Theta Omega remain active on campus and give back to the community in new and exciting ways. FOCUSED ON BRIGHT FUTURE As the semester wrapped up, we started preparing for fall formal recruitment. Vice President of Membership Experience Carolyn Smith '18 and Director of Recruitment Events Soleil Rucker '19 have been working tirelessly to create our Bid Day theme, recruitment outfits, and organize a game plan for recruitment next fall. As of now, we are still unsure if recruitment will be in person or via Zoom, so we are working on both procedures to ensure that we are prepared for whatever decision is made this fall.
