WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM MAY 26 - JUNE 1, 2021 UCW 19 WEEKLY HOROSCOPE NEWS OF THE WEIRD by the Editors at Andrews McMeel Syndication Smile for the Camera The Colonial Pipeline shutdown and subsequent gas shortage has produced its fair share of hysteria-fueled incidents in the Southeast, but Jesse Smith, 25, of Griffin, Georgia, may have set the bar. Police there were able to track down and arrest the would-be thief after he attempted to steal gas from a U-Haul truck on May 12 by drilling holes in its tank, resulting in a huge hazardous materials mess ... and no looted gas. WSB-TV reported that Smith was long gone by the time his handiwork was discovered, but security cameras in the U-Haul lot caught Smith walking around the trucks, and a camera trained on the area behind the KFC where Smith parked his own truck caught his hopeful arrival and the walk of shame that followed his failed gas heist. Least Competent Criminal Cordell Coleman, 33, was arrested for public intoxication on April 14 in Little Rock, Arkansas, and was held until about 2:30 the next morning. When he was released from the Polaski County jail, Coleman took the first car he came across: an unmarked Little Rock Police Department SUV that had been left unlocked. The Smoking Gun reported that police tracked the car to an apartment complex about 10 miles away, where Coleman was found in the car. He was brought back to jail and charged with felony theft, this time in lieu of $25,000 bond. Quick Thinking An unnamed maskless woman waiting in line at a Pick 'n' Pay supermarket in South Africa was caught on cellphone video being confronted by a store guard who demanded she put on a mask or be thrown out of the store. On the video, she is next seen reaching up under her dress, pulling out her underwear — a black thong — and placing it on her face, the New York Post re- ported. Witnesses were mixed in their reaction. "Good lord," one shopper was heard saying. "Bril- liant," said another. Question: I really miss the Hallmark Hall of Fame movies from the '80s and '90s. ey were always well made, with great storylines. ("Stones for Ibarra" comes to mind with Glenn Close) Any chance they will be back? — James K. Matt Roush: e first Glenn Close Hallmark Hall of Fame that comes to mind for me is "Sarah, Plain and Tall" (which came a few years af- ter "Stones"), but I get your point. Last time I checked, there weren't any "Hall of Fame" movies in the pipeline, and even if there were, they wouldn't have the pedigree of when they were among the most prestigious movies being made by the broadcast networks. It has been years since a "Hall of Fame" movie lived up to the revered franchise's reputation of adapting literary works like Anne Tyler novels and, amazingly, August Wilson's "e Pi- ano Lesson." Another factor in all of this is that the networks have pretty much given up on making big-bud- get movies for TV, high or lowbrow, which when I was first covering TV dominated Sunday nights. But those days appear to be over. To submit questions to TV Critic Matt Roush, go to: tvinsider.com. By Damian Holbrook Cheers to "e Conners" for its sobering take on substance abuse. On the April 21 episode of ABC's rebooted reboot, Becky (Lecy Go- ranson) came clean at rehab that she'd been using booze to deal with the motorcycle death of her hus- band Mark (late "Roseanne" regular Glenn Quinn). Her breakdown broke our hearts, but it also allowed Goranson to raise her game. Jeers to "Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist" for making us choose! It's impossible to find fault with sweet Max (Skylar Astin) and understand- ing Simon (John Clarence Stewart), except that they're both into an in- decisive mess like Zoey (Jane Levy) on the NBC dramedy. And really, how come she gets to have two per- fect suitors and weekly impromptu musical numbers?! ARIES - March 21/April 20 Aries, love and romance are definitely in your favor this week. If you have been pon- dering setting up a date or taking a spouse out for a night on the town, do it. TAURUS - April 21/May 21 Even the best partnerships can be challeng- ing, Taurus. Right now neither one of you is looking to take the lead. Even if it means flipping a coin, someone has to step up. GEMINI - May 22/June 21 Gemini, grab what you want this week, but remember that the more tightly you tr y to hang on to it, the more likely it will slip through your fingers. Employ some give and take. CANCER - June 22/July 22 Cancer, you may be unsure of which way a relationship is leaning and waiting for the other person to make the next move. Don't let opportunities pass you by. LEO - July 23/Aug. 23 Leo, if a supervisor seems set in his or her ways, you might have to present your proposal in language that will appeal to this person the most. VIRGO - Aug. 24/Sept. 22 If you are off doing your own thing, you may have to instruct others who count on you how to proceed in your absence. LIBR A - Sept. 23/Oct. 23 Other people are not mind readers, Libra. If you need something or are unhappy with a situation, you must speak up. Address concerns promptly. SCORPIO - Oct. 24/Nov. 22 It is quite easy to manipulate a situation if others aren't paying attention, Scorpio. If you are guiding or mentoring someone, exercise caution to stay neutral. SAGITTARIUS - Nov. 23/Dec. 21 Don't get ahead of yourself by projecting scenarios that may never see the light of day, Sagittarius. It's better to live in the present and then adjust to what comes your way. CAPRICORN - Dec. 22/Jan. 20 Your thoughts may be pulling you one way and then another, Capricorn. Find focus by zeroing in on the main thing that needs the most attention at this point. AQUARIUS - Jan. 21/Feb. 18 Aquarius, you may have to take a more reserved approach to get where you need to go. Even still, your love for adventure and freedom can be compelling motivators. PISCES - Feb. 19/March 20 Figure out your needs before making long- term plans with others. Even though you're sure of yourself, sometimes you let others take the lead. 910•484•6200 contact: editor@upandcomingweekly.com We can help give your business a voice! connect with the community What is your business doing?
