Mystic Circle
A brother dead and brothers mourning
Fill the heart with grief today,
And the earnest grasp fraternal;
Speaks, "a dear one passed away."
Yes, no longer we shall greet thee
In the halls of DKE,
Yet thy name in sweet remembrance
Graven on our hearts will be.
We have parted, Brother, parted,
As we trust, to meet again,
In a full unbroken circle,
Free from sorrow, grief and pain.
Joe DeBragga '43 passed away on November 11, 2020—days before the fall issue of the Yon
Clarion Bell was published, featuring Joe and his pledge brother Kenny Seyffer '43. Joe was active
in the Prayer Book Society and in DKE on the national level. He was nationally recognized for his
volunteerism as a Master Gardener. Joe was a passionate Mu of DKE alumnus and will be dearly
missed.
Roger Emblidge '49 passed away on September 13, 2020, surrounded by family with his wife,
June, holding his hand; she followed him three days later. Roger served in the U.S. Navy and
attended the University of Buffalo for pharmacy school. An avid golfer, Roger was a member
of Lima Country Club, where he played in a weekly league for more than five decades and won
several league championships; he was still playing until two months before his passing. He could
recount every shot from his last round, shot his age several times, and had his only hole-in-one
in his 70s! When he wasn't on the links, he loved entertaining his grandkids, playing cards, and
cheering for the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, Atlanta Braves, and Syracuse Orange. He was a
loving husband and family man and is missed by all who knew him.
Marshall "Marty" Wood '54 passed away on February 12. He served in the United States Army,
receiving an honorable discharge in 1949, and went on to serve in the Army Reserves, receiving
an honorable discharge as captain. Marty retired as a financial planner from Blair, Cutting, and
Smith Insurance Agency Inc. He worked as a manager of the local branch of Travelers Insurance
Company for over 30 years prior. He was a member of the Jewish Community Center and
Longmeadow Democratic Town Committee.
Marty was also a loyal donor and supporter of Mu of DKE. His daughter, Patty (a '79 Colgate
alumna), tells us that Marty always talked about the DKE house and the barrels of milk rum punch.
Although she rarely visited DKE because the LPM was full of "absolute animals," she still had
a soft spot for them because of her dad's affection for the Fraternity. "Dad took the Mu of DKE
secrets to the grave."
