Over the last 50-plus years, minor upgrades and repairs have been implemented to attempt to maintain the house as it was originally designed. However, it became increasingly obvious in the last decade that for Gamma Gamma to compete for the best men on campus our house needed significant upgrades. An analysis was done to determine whether it was better to upgrade the solidly- built-but-now-dated house or replace it with a new one. The decision was made to upgrade the existing structure. Longtime Chapter Advisor Ron Reeves '58, who the house was named after, initiated the idea to begin a capital campaign to renovate the house. A dedicated group of brothers followed his lead by working on both the capital campaign, the project design, and construction planning. After selecting Delv Design in Indianapolis earlier this year to lead the architectural, engineering, and design effort, the planning has been in overdrive. The resulting design is incredibly exciting. The project team firmly believes that, when construction is complete, we will have a house that serves our needs for decades and stands out architecturally and functionally among our Greek competition on and off campus. The improvements and renovations impact the entire house. First, new plumbing, digital technology, electrical service, and HVAC are being installed in individual rooms and common areas, replacing the antiquated boiler system and giving brothers the services needed to thrive in today's world. New dedicated, functionally designed study rooms will be available in each wing with ethernet capability for laptops to support virtual learning and bandwidth requirements. All other rooms in each wing will have upgraded living quarters with improved electrical service, new floors, energy-efficient windows, climate controls, and new paint. The common areas will receive a major transformation to provide a modern look and make it more functional, including new flooring, fixtures, energy- efficient windows, and furnishings. While the timeless mid-century modern look of the house is being maintained, included in that upgrade is a new, striking, and more contemporary entrance complete with an ADA-compliant elevator to service the general areas and an ADA-compliant restroom. A new secluded study room will be built on the lower level for use by new members and actives. The kitchen is being completely reworked to provide appropriate functionality for current and expected cooking requirements. Finally, the entrance will be enhanced with new landscaping and symbols to give the house a more attractive appeal for actives, prospective new members, and alumni. The active chapter, which has made a significant financial contribution to the campaign, is as excited about the changes as the project and campaign teams. We are confident alumni returning for Homecoming and other functions will also love the changes. While the campaign is off to a great start financially, we are still several hundred thousand dollars short of what is needed to complete the work we have in scope. If we exceed our goal, we can implement further enhancements, as well as ensure we have money available for ongoing major maintenance. We need every brother to participate in our capital campaign to the best of their capability to help make Ron Reeves' dream a reality!
