SISTERHOOD BEGINS AT HOME WHAT WE HEARD FROM TODAY'S MEMBERS ABOUT OUR CURRENT HOUSE "A major issue with our current chapter house is how small it is. We aren't able to participate in all the activities most other chapters provide their members. Examples include: chapter meetings, study areas, creative spaces, workout areas, and quiet spaces. I would LOVE to spend more time at the Alpha Phi house, but I feel like there is not enough room." - ASHLEY ZIEMIANIN '20, BUSINESS We know from our own experiences that time spent with Alpha Phi sisters is invaluable. If we want our collegiate sisters to develop sincere and lifelong friendships, we need to provide spaces in the house where they can all be together. "Our house is among the oldest houses in Greek town. To ensure our chapter's future on campus, we need a new house to attract new members during recruitment and to stay a top recruiting chapter. Sisterhood round is when we lose women during recruitment because of how our facility compares to other top chapters during house tours." – SYDNEY SUTTER '18, COMMUNICATIONS The past 10 years have brought significant change to Greek town in Columbia. Nearly every sorority on campus has undergone a complete rebuild or an extensive expansion and renovation. These state-of-the-art facilities far surpass Omicron in terms of space and amenities. This housing project has become essential for Alpha Phi to remain competitive. "Currently, the chapter cannot hold chapter meetings or initiation at the house, and study spaces are limited. Yet, there is a high demand to live in the house, especially with new member classes." – KELLY BRENNER '19, COMMUNICATIONS Our membership has grown to a point that Alpha Phi is unable to have chapter meetings at the house. This is one of the few times every week that our sisters can come together as an entire chapter and build their sisterhood. Although the members have found alternative ways to host meetings and rituals, they want to have this special time with one another in the Alpha Phi house. As a result of the feedback received from active members, as well as the need to remain competitive at Mizzou, the House Corporation Board developed a plan for a new Alpha Phi house. Working with Chiodini Architects, a firm based in Brentwood, Missouri, the rebuild project was created to meet not only the needs of our sisters today, but also develop a firm foundation for the next century of Omicron's sisterhood.
