PAGE 2 TAU TOPICS B ecause he had an older brother involved in Greek life, Greg Dauphin '96 saw fraternities as integral to the college experience and wanted to make the most of it. His high school friends Chris Guggenheim '95 and Brad Jones '96, a year above him, encouraged him to check out Theta Chi. "Once I walked on the lawn the first Sunday of rush, I literally never wanted to leave," Greg remembers. He checked out other fraternities that week, but that day-one feeling that Theta Chi was home never went away. STAYING TOGETHER The undergraduate memories from Tau—whether road trips to sporting events, canoe trips, or just doing nothing together as friends—have persisted over the years, as have the many friendships Greg made there. "I don't need to look any farther than my iPhone to see multiple text threads with Theta Chis, including one fantasy football thread with 19 brothers on it." Greg has been the commissioner of that fantasy league for the last decade, and during the pandemic he has also enjoyed keeping up with many brothers through virtual hangouts such as online poker nights. Greg held several committee and leadership roles in the Chapter House, and Theta Chi also exposed him to campus organizations such as Student Government and Florida Cicerones. He credits all these and more with helping hone his foundational skills in leadership, organization, and communication, which have served him well in his career. He has been with the global communications consultancy Ketchum for 16 years as of April, where he currently serves as VP /senior director of marketing integration, both leading marketing operations and managing marketing campaigns for his firm. Greg takes pride in the longevity he has found in his career, with a company whose values align with his own. Most of all, Greg is proud of the family he has built with his wife, Marie, and their three kids, Ben, Alex, and Camille. Navigating virtual schooling and both parents working remotely the past year "has been no small feat, but never a dull moment," and he is thankful for the close-knit family time and silly laughs they have shared. BONDED BY SOMETHING GREATER Greg is happy to hear from brothers that the Theta Chi house is becoming much more diverse than during his years in the '90s. "As I've gotten older—especially in becoming the father of three beautiful Black children—I've come to understand and appreciate how much representation and inclusion matter, and how much stronger any organization is for having diversity in all ways—race, culture, identity, interests, and beliefs." He added that a fraternity is, by its very nature, a collection of individuals from different backgrounds, bonded by something greater than themselves. "On paper, many of my best friends today may have seemed to have little in common years ago, but the Fraternity connected us. Exposure to each other, while building friendships over time and through brotherhood, helped us grow as people and expand our worldviews in ways that wouldn't have happened if we'd stayed in echo chambers of sameness. Let's keep pushing to broaden the voices that contribute to that experience – not as a nice-to-have but as an intentional priority." Greg lives in Smyrna, Ga., and when he's not spending time with friends and family, he enjoys keeping up with Gators sports, the NFL and NBA, as well as carving out time to read (including indulging his inner fanboy with comics).
