e Serpent 4 T he active membership of Beta Zeta is thrilled to see the hard work of collegians and alumni alike pay off, as all brothers were thrilled to receive our charter from Sigma Nu headquarters in February. In the two months leading up to our rechartering, each AAB advisor had a transition- oriented phone call with their respective officers. We're beyond thankful for the leadership they've provided at Beta Zeta. Academics remains our top priority as we strive to build upon this momentum. In fall 2020, the active chapter achieved a 3.30 GPA and our new members went above and beyond with a 3.46 GPA. Sigma Nu finished sixth among 40-plus IFC chapters on campus. Another area of importance has been recruitment, and obviously COVID-19 has impacted that in just about every way possible. Regardless, Beta Zeta accepted 26 new members between the fall 2020 and spring 2021 recruitment seasons thanks to Recruitment Chairman Ross Carter. While 15 of these men are still early in their candidacy journey, we have high hopes for 100% retention. Our LEAD program is on track to complete most, if not all, modules for every phase for the first time ever. Everett Mitchell served as the LEAD chairman for the fall semester and kicked our program into high gear on Zoom. Our community service hours average per member has actually improved during the pandemic. We averaged seven service hours during the fall semester. While a lot of our operations had to be reworked or paused due to the pandemic, the chapter officers have done a great job of enforcing COVID-19 prevention guidelines to keep brothers safe and healthy. Despite all the measures we took, four in-house brothers did test positive last fall. We were thankful that they made a full recovery and that we limited the spread to just those four brothers. We are continuously monitoring the COVID-19 situation on campus and can't wait for things to go back to normal so we can do even more with the community.
