T H E L Y R E L E T T E R | P A G E 2 X i Chapter has positively and successfully navigated through the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing all of our members, both live-ins and live-outs, to feel comfort in a time where it is anything but. As the new school year kicked off in August, we had many precautionary measures put into place for the safety of our Real. Strong. Women. Procedure changes included not allowing guests, requiring a mask everywhere but your personal living space, daily cleans from our cleaning lady, daily cleans from a disinfecting company, all meals given individually, disposable dinnerware, and pre-packaged items. Our goal with implementing these precautions was to make the women of the chapter feel comfortable living in, as well as prevent anyone from getting sick. Recruitment was entirely online via Zoom, but we embraced it with open arms. Each day, we all dressed up as per usual and had wonderful conversations that brought us more Alpha Chis. Rounds were held the same, just virtually in breakout rooms. We finished our continuous open bidding for the spring and had our spring Bid Day––The Alpha Chi Effect, which was butterfly themed. Women came in small waves and were able to take photos with their masks on. We have been so fortunate to have a team that combats pandemic conflicts to keep us safe while still offering the Alpha Chi Omega experience. Our house director, Lisa, is an incredibly strong role model for all of the women in the chapter and fills our days with positivity. When Nebraska got so much snow that we were snowed in and unable to get food, Lisa made the entire house dinner––and it was delicious. Berkeley, our house dog, never leaves Lisa's side unless one of the live-ins takes her out on a walk down Greek Row. Even during the pandemic, we have been able to live in a chapter home that fully functions to give each member a fulfilling experience here at Alpha Chi Omega. One of the most frequented spots within the chapter is our Lincoln Lounge. At any point in time, whether it be day or night, women can always be found in this space watching movies, doing homework, or catching up with each other about their days. Masks are worn to ensure health safety between members, but this is no detriment to the experiences we all share in this space. The spot is so popular now that many members have coined it as the "LL" for short, and the memories we make here will last a lifetime. Another portion of the home members cherish greatly is our basement study areas. With midterms coming at us with full force, this space is not only essential but welcoming to each member to study, collaborate on projects, or take exams that are now online due to the pandemic. The basement serves as a quiet place that women can go at any time to aid in their educational growth, which is essential due to many classes being virtual. Study dates are also being held in the basement each Wednesday with proper social distancing. With the warm weather coming near, many women also enjoy doing their studies outside the chapter, whether it be on the front patio or in the backyard with our new furniture. This gives the women a great change of scenery and fresh air to study within. On days where schoolwork is light, women will bring out their speakers and play light music along with studying. This atmosphere is great for women who may need a change of pace during the day to study, catch up with their sisters, or even to just soak in the sun between classes.
