We're pleased to share several Delta Upsilon Chapter highlights with you in this newsletter, including a 3.31 GPA last fall (our best in the last 10 years), efforts by our recruitment chairmen to bring in another great class of young men (with an emphasis on expanding our recruitment efforts to new areas across Kansas), and a spotlight on Larry Fox '76, who has given back so much to our chapter. Larry retired from our House Corporation last spring after serving on it for more than 40 years. We nominated him for the Order of Constantine last year and learned recently that he will be inducted into the Order this year. This is the highest honor any Sigma Chi alumnus can receive. Larry joins George Hooper '60 and Tom Roberts '70 to become the third Delta Upsilon Chapter Sig to receive this prestigious honor. Congratulations and thank you, Brother Fox! Sigma Chi at K-State has weathered the pandemic successfully thus far with very few infections and no outbreaks within the house. Once again, the House Corporation tested all members before they moved back in. The undergraduates, under the direction of Mom Rocky, have adhered to safe practices within the house and particularly in the dining room. We recently learned that Riley County is pulling back from all COVID-19 restrictions with the exception of the mask mandate effective March 1, 2021. It is hard to anticipate what impact this will have, but we are hoping to make it through the semester without any significant issues. Beginning this semester, the Delta Upsilon Chapter became an alcohol- free facility. This has gone well and the positive impact on the structure and cleanliness of the house is telling. The men have transitioned to social events (as allowed by Riley County) offsite at third- party venues. The chapter officers are enforcing this and tell us that there have been precious few violations. Periodic reviews of the surveillance tapes confirm this. This is a work in progress, however, and much perseverance will be required by the active chapter and alumni to stay on the right path. We are hoping to have an alumni tailgate next fall at one of the football games, assuming continued positive trends with COVID-19 infections in Kansas. The specifics will come to you via eblast later in the spring and will also be on the chapter website, kstatesigmachi.com. We look forward to seeing you in the fall. While we are proud of last spring's effort to bring in 24 new members to our brotherhood for the fall semester, there is no question that improvement needs to be made when it comes to recruiting prospective brothers from across the state of Kansas, as well as out-of-state members. The recruitment team is committed to reaching out and meeting kids from all over Kansas. As we expand the chapter's recruitment efforts, we can use the help of our loyal alumni.
