Alpha Phi allowed me to meet so many new and amazing people with a wide variety of interests. This really opened me up to new opportunities as far as getting involved on campus. Additionally, it pushed me to get involved in leadership roles that I was able to pursue both inside and outside of our chapter. In my time at Mizzou, I have served as Vice President of Communications for Omicron, and now President for Mizzou Student Suicide Prevention Coalition, as a Campus Representative for Victoria's Secret Campus Program, a member of Panhellenic Association's (PHA) Safe Sisters Program, and finally, as a Digital Accessibility Liaison for PHA's Accessibility Committee. Being involved on campus has been one of the biggest highlights of my college career, and I wouldn't have been able to do it without the support and opportunities granted to me through Alpha Phi. How has Alpha Phi impacted you as a student at Mizzou? Joining Alpha Phi my freshman year was one of the best decisions I made as a collegian. There is no greater feeling than being surrounded by a loving group of women who have the same values as myself. I have made the most amazing friends, I was able to step up and have a leadership role, and I now even have a job with Alpha Phi! Starting in July I will be working as an Educational Leadership Consultant. I am beyond excited for this opportunity, and I can't wait to get to work! How have Alpha Phi's academic standards helped you succeed as student? Alpha Phi's academic standards have rewarded me when I am at my best and aided me during my struggles. Throughout the past four years in Alpha Phi, I have had a challenging academic journey as a pre-medical student and was often concerned about how participating in Greek Life would affect my academic performance. Alpha Phi provided me with both programming and people that were there every step. The first week in Alpha Phi, I met like- minded sisters who had taken the same classes prior to me. They were able to give me advice about which professors to take, the best ways to study, and even share where some of the best study spots were on campus. In addition to academic companionship, Alpha Phi has unique academic programming that no other chapter on Mizzou's campus has. At the end of each semester, I felt rewarded and celebrated for all my hard work through the scholarship auction. My study hours and accomplishments allowed me to bid on big ticket items, making it feel like Alpha Phi's very own Christmas. When I wasn't doing my best academically, Alpha Phi provided a mentorship program and study resources for any class I was taking. When I look back on my academic journey over the past four years, I am thankful for Alpha Phi's support (and for its library that I spent more time in than I care to admit). How have you been changed through Alpha Phi's philanthropic efforts? Philanthropy in Alpha Phi has motivated me to do more for my community and encourage others to do so as well. Seeing how much money we can raise and give back, as well as how that directly impacts people in my life and community, motivates me to keep looking for new opportunities to get involved with philanthropy. Participating in philanthropic events through Alpha Phi and PHA has only increased my passion and drive to find charities that I love and show others the value and impact we can have. Overall, the opportunities that I have had through Alpha Phi make me feel like I have a purpose and I love working with my sisters to give back to our community as much as possible.
