WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM MARCH 10-16, 2021 UCW 19 WEEKLY HOROSCOPE NEWS OF THE WEIRD by the Editors at Andrews McMeel Syndication Least Competent Criminal Leobardo Hernandez, 32, of Pomo- na, California, went to extraordinary lengths to evade police after allegedly stealing a car. As Hernandez ran from officers, he entered an apartment complex and found an unlocked door, the Daily Bulletin reported. The apart- ment residents were not at home, so Hernandez moved right in, shaving his face, changing clothes and even cooking tortillas to make it seem as if he lived there. Unfortunately, he also burned the tortillas, summoning the fire department. Hernandez eventu- ally surrendered and was charged with burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle among other offenses. The Continuing Crisis Two Florida residents, Brian Mon- talvo Tolentino, 43, of Davenport and Juan Burgos-Lopez, 39, of Lake Wales, admitted to police they had removed four human skulls from tombs they had robbed in Mount Dora, WKMG- TV reported. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd told local media that de- tectives serving a search warrant on Burgos-Lopez's property found a shed containing a ritualistic shrine and seven skulls the men told authorities they used in the practice of the Palo Mayombe religion. Three of the four graves robbed were of members of the armed forces because, Judd said, Lopez told authorities "the spirit is much stronger in a hero" and "it can protect you from evil." Before vandal- izing the graves, Judd added, the men drank rum and spit it on the ground, then smoked a cigar and exhaled the smoke "to protect them from the spir- its." DNA on the cigars led authorities to the suspects. Awesome! Joe the Pigeon, named after the new U.S. president, has become world-famous after being found in a Melbourne, Australia, backyard with a band around his leg that suggested he was a racing pigeon from Oregon, 8,000 miles away. Australian authori- ties declared the bird a biosecurity risk and announced they would have to euthanize him, the Associated Press reported, but Joe received a last- minute reprieve when Deone Roberts of the American Racing Pigeon Union declared that the band around Joe's leg is "counterfeit and not traceable." Australia's Agriculture Department agreed, saying in a statement that Joe "is highly likely to be Australian," and it would take no further action against him. Question: Well, HBO has canceled "e Outsider." What are the odds of this great show being picked up by another service? — Justin Matt Roush: e chances of "e Outsider" turning up somewhere else appear to be more promising than in most cases. For one, there's the Stephen King factor. He's still a popular draw; I'm among those looking forward to the new version of "e Stand" on CBS All Access that just started. But more to the point, there were reports that the writ- ers and producers had made progress breaking stories and even scripts for a second season, and when HBO decided not to proceed with a second round, the network gave its blessing to the studio and producers, including Jason Bate- man, who already has a good working relationship with Netflix with "Ozark." I won't be surprised if this turns up there or elsewhere. To submit questions to TV Critic Matt Roush, go to: tvinsider.com. By Damian Holbrook Cheers to "Outlander" for thinking out- side the box. On top of taking some big emotional swings with Claire and Jamie (Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan), Season 5 of the Starz time-travel epic threw us creative curveballs like an epi- sode partly in black-and- white and the harrowing season finale peek at what the Frasers' lives would have looked like in the '60s. Jeers to "Riverdale's" Auteur storyline for being too out there. Of all the crazy things Archie (KJ Apa) and the gang have served up on the CW drama — what high schooler owns a nightclub?! — this sicko mystery surrounding a series of snuff films is killing us. It's just too grim, even for a town where a cheer- leader hangs out with her dead twin. Jeers to "Chicago Fire's" Severide (Taylor Kinney) for not dousing those rumors about Stella (Miranad Rae Mayo). Instead of taking the station- house gossips to task for whispering that his girlfriend got a promotion because of their romance, the studly firefighter decided to "give her space" so it would look better for both of them.
