RETAILOBSERVER.COM MARCH 2021 34 FIRST PLACE / SMALL TRADITIONAL KITCHEN continued from page 13 Tanya Woods, AKBD, CLIPP, Owner/Designer Xstyles bath + more Betcha by Galley Wow — A once-bland galley kitchen is rejuvenated by removing a load-bearing wall and outfitting it in a vintage style. Many visually intriguing design elements invigorate this kitchen. Classic white brick, buoyed by 3D geometry and fine-line pin- striping clads the entire room. With its big bold pattern, encaustic tile animates the floor. Black mullions in the new exterior windows are repeated in the mullions of the cabinetry. The deep charcoal matte cabinetry is not only visually engaging but also soft to the touch. A cluster of pendants cleverly combines large black hoops with over-scaled, laser- etched Edison bulbs suspended in their centers. Satin gold finishes take charge in the vintage cabinet hardware, faucet and accessories. Wrapped in American Walnut and effort- lessly coordinating with the existing wood flooring, it is ultimately the header that frames this space. Black bolt heads, upon closer look, give the appearance of mechanical fasteners. But actually they are an applique, adding another detail to further the retro, steam- punk vibe. Three cantilevered shelves take the place of wall cabinets, while a single-bottle-wide wine rack slides in comfortably behind the base cabinet. Any storage lost to the elimination of uppers is picked up by a floor-to-ceiling cabinet with the depth of one canned good, which sits on the vanishing point of the long view. The final result is a galley kitchen slightly expanded in size and greatly expanded in style.
