I found the fi rst article I shared about the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (originally called 2019- CoV) Yes, it's been quite a year, one that we will never forget. I knew I had been posting updates on Face- book, but didn't think I had an arti- cle before March. Here's an excerpt from the February 5th, 2020 edition: "The number of confi rmed cas- es of the coronavirus rose to 20,630 on Tuesday, and Hong Kong reported its fi rst death from the virus, which has killed at least 425, all but one of them in mainland China." Over the past year, there has been so much heartache, too many lives lost, denials based upon fear, and then came the lies and deceit - enough to make our heads spin. Last week I spent over two hours at the vaccination clinic held in Quartzsite, documenting the experi- ence for the future. Elders came to help stop the spread of the virus. The challenge for our County Health De- partment was that they didn't receive much of a notice that the vaccines were arriving. They posted the clinic dates on their Facebook page just one day before appointment lines were opened up. It was the fi rst mass vaccination for our county work- ers. Considering all the challenges involved, they did a great job of ad- justing to the situation. I witnessed so much hope in the faces of those who were lucky enough to receive the vaccinations. As with any fi rst time event, there were a few glitches, but workers overcame the obstacles with ease. As we look upon the next year, my hope is that we, as human beings, continue to have hope in our hearts, knowing our healing journey is not over, but just beginning. Let us not be so hard on each other or ourselves. Let us remember we all have differ- ent viewpoints, based upon our own experiences. No one's pain is worse than anyone elses. No one wins the Pain Olympics. When we're feeling a bit overwhelmed by life, especially the losses experienced over the past year, it's good for us to take some time for our own healing. While at the chamber recently, I met a gal who was planning on taking one week to unplug from social media and the world; taking time to recharge. Yes, it's important to be considerate and to care for others. But we need to put on our own oxygen masks fi rst. It's okay to acknowledge our emotions and challenges over the past year. It's okay to just be you. It's okay to not be okay, too. Remember to breathe, from your belly, deep and slow. I hope you can continue recharging your batteries for the next year.
