Angel UPDATE I L L I N O I S Z E T A C H A P T E R U N I V E R S I T Y O F I L L I N O I S | W I N T E R 2 0 2 1 HELP YOUR SISTERS SHINE IN DARK TIMES D uring the past year, we've been continually thankful for the power of our Pi Beta Phi sisterhood and community. As we've adjusted to new normals in our everyday lives, it is my hope you've still had opportunities to connect with your Pi Phi sisters. Since our sisterhood's founding in 1867, Pi Beta Phi has been a source of strength for its undergraduate members and alumnae, even during the darkest of times. Each Pi Phi lights anew, and I hope you've felt that comfort and support in recent months. No matter the challenges 2020 has presented, please know your sisters are always here for you. Whether it's a phone call, text, email, Zoom call or a small socially-distanced gathering, there are many ways to safely keep your sisterly bonds strong as we push forward together. At Illinios Zeta, the chapter is focused on both supporting each other through a challenging school year and remembering the importance of self-care. Throughout the semester, our chapter has placed a strong emphasis on being there for your sisters and putting mental health first. In the beginning of the semester, we collectively participated in a life balance workshop to get our goals in check and recognize the importance of self-care. While the majority of our chapter members were on campus, many of our sisters remained at home this semester. We modified our programming to ensure all members could participate safely and receive the support they need from the Pi Phi community. Additionally, we continuously encouraged everyone to reach out to a sister to check in and see how they are doing. During strange times like these, a simple "how are you?" from someone who cares can really make a difference in your day. Doing something as simple as reaching out to one of your sisters when they are struggling and letting them know they are loved is what our sisterhood is all about. The memories shared together have helped define our Sincere Friendships. Illinois Zeta collegians have realized during the pandemic that now more than ever, we need our sisters for support and inspiration. This fall, I have experienced firsthand that support from your sisters during a time like this is truly irreplaceable. Our Executive Council has faced challenges that are unique because we cannot seek guidance from past officers who have never dealt with a pandemic. To overcome the unexpected, others within our chapter have stepped up to ensure our success. Everyone on the Chapter Leadership Team has supported one another, using creativity and innovation to adapt to the world we now live in. Positions have collaborated with one another more than ever before. Additionally, we have received endless support from our members who understand the challenges of adapting to a virtual environment. Personally, my close friends within Pi Phi have been my backbone throughout my term as Chapter President. From Facetime calls to socially-distanced hangouts, I have my sisters to thank for being smiling faces — despite any stress or craziness happening around us. The empowerment we've all experienced from Pi Phi is a feeling unlike any other, and there's no doubt that sharing those moments with sisters in-person makes them that much more special. However, no amount of distance can prevent us from being equipped to fulfill our mission. Whether it's reaching out to a sister who needs your support or seeking a sister to confide in, please know that making the effort to stay in touch with your sisters is 100% worth it. We can't wait until the day when it's safe to gather again for our favorite Illinios Zeta events and develop and strengthen Sincere Friendships at our beloved home at 1005 South Wright. Until then, we wish good health and happiness to you and your loved ones and a renewed sense of resilience to guide you through the year.
