2 Phi Sig Express A ustin Tummers '15 decided to join Phi Sigma Kappa after hearing about the positive experience his brother, Josh Tummers '08, had with Delta Triton Chapter. "He always spoke so highly of Phi Sig," Austin said. "I was able to come visit him a few times in high school, and by the time I got to college it was a no-brainer deciding to join." As an active member of Delta Triton, Austin grew close to his fraternity brothers and felt as if the chapter house was his second home. One of his favorite bonding activities was hosting tailgates with his brothers on Boilermaker game days. "Unfortunately, the football team wasn't very good while I was there," Austin said. "However, that never stopped us from having a good time." It wasn't all fun and games, though, as Austin wasn't sure what he wanted to do for a career when he enrolled at Purdue University. After getting involved with the chapter and becoming a member of the executive board, holding offices as inductor, vice president, and president, Austin knew what he wanted to do. "Holding leadership positions helped guide me toward a career in management." Austin graduated from Purdue with a degree in strategic management. Shortly after graduation, he accepted a supervisor position in Indianapolis, Indiana. Today, he is a warehouse supervisor for AmerisourceBergen in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In this position, Austin oversees a team of 15-20 employees who are responsible for receiving all inbound freight shipments to the facility. Despite moving out of Indiana, Austin has remained dedicated to and heavily involved with Delta Triton. Shortly after graduation, he felt fortunate to be selected for a regional adviser role through Phi Sigma Kappa Nationals. Unfortunately, he later lost that role due to restructuring within Nationals. He was then asked to get involved with the Delta Triton alumni board and has been on the board for two years. "I hope that I am able to keep working with the chapter for many years to come," Austin said. On top of his volunteer position with Delta Triton, Austin has also given his financial support to the Honoring Our Past, Building Our Future capital campaign. He says that he chooses to give back whenever he can because of how much the chapter helped him in both his personal and professional life. "I loved the old chapter house and it will always have a special place in my life," Austin said. "That said, it did have a lot of issues. I wanted to be able to contribute to bringing a new house onto campus." He hopes that his fellow alumni will consider what Phi Sig did for them when they were active members. "Giving back is the least we can do," Austin said. "The chapter house has helped all of us in one way or another. Giving back to Phi Sig helps in more ways than you think." Austin loves visiting with his brothers anytime he gets the chance, and was recently lucky enough to be invited to his Little Brother's wedding. He was able to return to the chapter house in 2019 and says a lot has changed since he lived there. "When I graduated we had around 30 members living in the old house," Austin said. "One thing that definitely hasn't changed is how welcome I feel whenever I return to the chapter house." Austin lives in Bloomington, Minnesota, and can be reached at austintummers@gmail.com.
