3 S igma Chi has made tremendous strides in the fight against COVID-19 and the improvement of our chapter. Last year, the novel coronavirus spread throughout the United States, affecting millions. The executive committee and house corporation worked cohesively in creating a social distance plan for the house, and their cooperation was successful. This social distance plan included the renting of an apartment next door for anyone who encounters symptoms, plus everyday precautions such as lower dining room capacity and requiring masks on the first floor to ensure the safety of our housemother and chef. This made Sigma Chi one of the few houses on campus without an outbreak of COVID-19. With the spring semester of last year ending abruptly, we were not able to hold our Derby Days philanthropy event; but we still donated $1,500 to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation. This money was raised by members working game day security throughout the 2019 football season. We were the first Greek organization hired by K-State Athletics and were honored to put the funds toward such a great cause. The biggest highlight over the past few months was receiving the Peterson Significant Chapter Award. The Peterson recognizes Sigma Chi's best, based on wide-ranging criterion from Ritual to alumni involvement. This was our chapter's first Peterson in eight years and represents the strides the chapter has made since the beginning of the New Era Campaign. Another highlight for our chapter comes with the election of Mick Kuckelman '18 as KSU's Interfraternity Council's (IFC) President. As the governing body, IFC establishes procedures for cooperation among fraternities and coordinates recruitment, leadership programs, and other activities. Mick was elected this fall and will serve a one-year term. We are thrilled to have a Sigma Chi serving in that role on campus. During the spring, the chapter achieved a GPA of 3.29. This represented an increase of .2 points from the previous semester, and a continuation of the steady rise in grades the chapter has seen in recent years. While Delta Upsilon has faced a wide variety of challenges this year, our improvement and success as a chapter has continued. We greatly appreciate all the alumni support and hope we can safely see you all soon!
