4 T his semester has been different than any other past semester. We have overcome some incredible obstacles, but we have grown more as a chapter because of it. Even though we are mostly virtual, we have continued to expand our sisterhood and our love of Sigma Kappa. We have taken this time to reflect on the importance of sisterhood and our home. Our grades in the previous semester were impressive, with a 3.68 chapter GPA. Coming off an amazing semester amidst a pandemic, we have seen many academic and professional achievements this fall. Many members are receiving and accepting summer internships and full-time offers with companies, and one member was accepted into her dream chiropractic school post-graduation! Ashley Swims '17, our vice president of academic excellence, has received many emails from members about great exam grades this semester, and we look forward to seeing all the great things our members will achieve the remainder of the year! Fabiola Feliciano '18, our sisterhood chairman, has been working hard to plan as many events as possible given the guidelines and circumstances. She planned a trick-or-treat event in the house, where sisters decorated their doors with Halloween decorations (the best door won a Starbucks gift card) and placed a bowl of candy outside of their door. Another event this semester is a movie night on Slayter Hill, where we will cozy up with our sisters and watch a movie with snacks and other treats. Our main goal is to keep the morale of the chapter high so we can grow our sisterhood and friendships during this hard time! Elizabeth Vernier '18, our VP of programing, has facilitated four virtual membership development workshops this semester. The first two focused on diversity and inclusion and opened a dialogue revolving on how to create a more inclusive community within Sigma Kappa. We also had a public relations workshop, educating members on the importance of keeping a clean social media presence. Not only is representing Sigma Kappa positively online important, but with the world going virtual it is critical to have a respectable online presence for future employers. Our last membership development meeting will be a program hosted through Purdue University's recreational center called "Rethinking Your Drinking." This program will reinforce the importance of health and wellness on campus and outline the laws put in place and the consequences of violating those laws. Elizabeth's goal is to promote workshops that are interesting for our sisters, and she has done an amazing job doing so. Our fall 2020 semester may look a little different from past years, but that has not kept us from our philanthropy. We raised $10,840 for the National Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's. We showed our support by individually walking a few miles around our own neighborhoods. Our chapter has continued to protect the earth by keeping our adopted highway clean and free from trash and other waste. We have also been making masks for those in need, volunteering at food banks and dog shelters, and much more! Service is important to our chapter, especially during these times of uncertainty. We look forward to the day that alumnae can safely visit the chapter house and we can hold in-person events again. Until then, wash your hands, wear a mask, and know that you all have our well wishes! Loyally, Madison Enos '18 Chapter President THRIVING THROUGH ADVERSITY Sigma Kappa Perseveres in a Pandemic (Above) We are thrilled to welcome all of our new members! Although Bid Day looked a bit different this year, it was still a memory we will never forget. (Right) Congratulations to our amazing sister, Talia Jacobson '18, for winning Pi Kappa Phi's War of Roses 2020! She raised over $2,900 for The Ability Experience and played her violin beautifully!
